Shalom u'Vrachah!

In response to your prompt letter.

I have asked you several times and also warned you not to be in a state of sadness or melancholy. I have explained to you that my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe hk"m, has blessed you many times, and a tzaddik decrees and the Holy One, blessed be He, fulfills it—as stated in the Talmud. Heaven forbid to cast any doubt on this or to weaken your trust. Besides all the sayings of our Sages that explain the negativity of such behavior, this also damages, G‑d forbid, the channels [of blessing].

This is the language of the Zohar Parshas Tetzaveh 184b: "Come and see: The lower world is always ready to receive and is called a precious stone. The upper world gives to it only according to its state. If it stands below with a shining countenance, then so they shine upon it from above; but if it stands in sadness, judgments are given against it accordingly. As it says (Tehillim 100), 'Serve Hashem with joy,' and the joy of human beings draws upon itself another higher joy."
