והנקודה העיקרית בזה היא לדעת שחג החנוכה אינו רק לזכר דברים שקרו לפני הרבה הרבה שנים, אלא שהוא מלמד את כולנו איך צריכה להיות ההנהגה גם עכשיו. כי לא רק בימים ההם אלא גם בזמן הזה יש כאלה שרוצים
"להשכיחם
תורתך ולהעבירם על חוקי רצונך". אבל אין יהודי עושה חשבונות אם רבים הכוחות שכנגד, אלא אדרבה הוא מחליט ביתר תוקף ללמוד את התורה, תורת ה', בהתמדה ושקידה ומשתדל בכל עוז לקיים את החוקים והמצוות שהם רצונו של ה'. ואז השם יתברך עוזר לכל היהודים, כמו שכתוב ב"ועל הנסים" - רבת את ריבם וכו' מסרת גבורים ביד חלשים ורבים ביד מעטים וכו'.

I pleasantly received your letters regarding Chanukah gelt. Surely, along with this you also received an explanation about the meaning of the days of Chanukah and what we can learn from them—especially from the Chanukah lights that we kindle, increasing in number and light each day.
The main point is to know that the holiday of Chanukah is not only a remembrance of things that happened many years ago; rather, it teaches all of us how our conduct should be even now. For not only "in those days," but also "at this time," there are those who wish to make us forget Your Torah and turn us away from the statutes of Your will. But a Jew does not calculate whether there are many opposing forces; on the contrary, he decides with even greater strength to study Torah—the Torah of Hashem—with diligence and effort, striving with all his might to fulfill the statutes and mitzvos which are His will.
Then Hashem helps all Jews, as it is written in "Al HaNissim"—Ravta es Rivam (You fought their battle), etc.; You delivered the mighty into the hands of the weak and the many into the hands of the few, etc.
Similarly regarding the Jewish custom to give Chanukah gelt to children: this too contains many lessons and hints, some of which are explained in the letter attached here. I hope you will read it attentively so it will lead to practical action in good and proper conduct every single day throughout the year.
