In response to your question regarding my position on the elections for the Chief Rabbinate—and to preface that this matter also pertains to the election of rabbis in any place, whether in Eretz Yisrael or abroad—my position is as it was during the previous elections for the Chief Rabbinate. This stance is based on what is explained in several places, among them the well-known responsa of Chatam Sofer: I am opposed to dismissing a rabbi from his post at the conclusion of his contract term or similar situations. This does not in any way diminish the honor of those candidates running against him, as I wrote during the previous elections.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that dismissing a rabbi at the end of a contract is improper according to halachic sources and does not detract from other candidates' honor. This principle applies broadly to rabbinic appointments everywhere.
