To the 28th annual gathering of the "Nitzivei HaYeshivah" Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch in Montreal may Hashem be upon them for life.

Merit is brought about on a meritorious day—good things happen on good days. This year's annual gathering takes place on the 9th of Adar Sheni, a historic day when the founder of Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch in Montreal arrived in America thirty years ago (also in a leap year).

In this context, it is fitting to recall the unforgettable words that the Previous Rebbe said immediately upon stepping onto American soil: My coming here with G‑d's help is so that I may, with G‑d's kindnesses, continue my work in spreading Torah and fear of Heaven and service, as well as involvement for the benefit of all our Jewish brethren—even here in this land... (to create) a broad awakening campaign for Torah study so that Torah will illuminate the Jewish street and home. (Sefer HaSichos 5700, p.5).

At that time there were many prominent laymen who expressed great doubts whether this mission that the leader of Israel, Nasi HaDor, undertook upon his arrival could be realized. However, this did not weaken his resolve; on the contrary—it only doubled his self-sacrifice. His answer to all doubts was simple: America is no different! The Torah and mitzvos that are valid for a Jew everywhere are also valid in America. And since even in America Jews must live according to Torah and raise their children on the path of Torah and mitzvah, it is certain that the Alm-ghty has given the ability to accomplish this. All that was required was proper determination with an earnest and heartfelt approach.

Now, thirty years later, one clearly sees the extraordinary success with G‑d's help that can be achieved in spreading Torah with fear of Heaven and proper education—if one truly desires it and acts with self-sacrifice. One of the best proofs of this is Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch in Montreal—the pride of Canadian Jewry and one of the greatest strongholds of Torah and pure education on this American continent.

I greet the esteemed activists and friends of the yeshivah who are partners in its development. I hope with G‑d's help that past successes will strengthen their resolve and double their assistance to help this holy institution grow from strength to strength.

May Hashem bless everyone together and each individual specifically to act in this with breadth, joy, and gladness of heart—with success and expansiveness also regarding their personal needs both materially and spiritually together.
