פון אַן עיבור-יאָר איז, ווי באַקאַנט, פאַרבונדן מיט דער איינשטעלונג פון אונזערע ימים-טובים אין זייער ריכטיגער צייט.
אונזער אידישער לוח איז איינגעשטעלט לויט דעם גאַנג פון דער לבנה, אָבער אַזוי ווי דער לבנה-יאָר בלייבט הינטערשטעליג לגבי דעם זון-יאָר מיט אומגעפער עלף טעג, האָבן מיר יעדע צוויי-דריי יאָר אַן עיבור-יאָר, מיט אַ צוגעגעבענעם חודש, כדי מַשלים צו זיין די צייט, אַזוי אַז אונזערע ימים טובים זאָלן אויספאַלן אין זייער ריכטיגער צייט פון יאָר (פסח אין פרילינג, סוכות אין הערבסט, אאַ"וו).
אָבער ווי אַלע ענינים אין אידישן לעבן, וואָס אויסער זייער אייגענעם אינהאַלט האָבן זיי אויך אַלגעמיינע אָנווייזונגען פאַר יעדן איינעם און איינע פון אונז אין טאָג-טעגלעכן לעבן, אַזוי אויך דער עיבור-יאָר.
די אָפּלערנונג פון עיבור-יאָר איז: אַ איד קען אין איין יאָר פאַרפולקאָמען דאָס וואָס ער האָט פאַרפעלט אין פריערדיגע יאָרן.
נאָכמער: פונקט ווי דער עיבור-יאָר איז אויך אַן "איבער-יאָר" דורכדעם וואָס ער איז ניט נאָר משלים די הינטערשטעליגע טעג, נאָר ער גיט אויך "אַדערויף" אויף פאָרויס – אַזוי איז ניט גענוג בלויז צו פאַרפולקאָמען דאָס פאַרפעלטע; ס'איז נויטיג אויך צו געבן "אַדערויף" אויף פאָרויס.
איך האָף אַז באַ דער געלעגנהייט פון דער יערלעכער מלוה מלכה, ווען מ'וועט פאַרצייכנען די דערגרייכונגען פון די בית רבקה שולעס אין די פאַרגאַנגענע יאָרן, וועט מען אויך נעמען אין באַטראַכט, אַז מיט אַ ביסל מער אָנשטרענגונג וואָלט מען דאָך געקענט אויפטאָן אַ סך מער.
און זיכער וועלן אַלע עסקנים און פריינט פון בית רבקה, וועלכע שאַצן אָפּ די לעבנסוויכטיקייט פון די דאָזיגע מוסדות חינוך על טהרת הקודש, אָננעמען די נויטיגע החלטות, במעשה בפועל, ניט נאָר משלים צו זיין דאָס וואָס מ'האָט געקענט אויפטאָן אין די פאַרגאַנגענע יאָרן, נאָר טאַקע מיט "אַדערויף" און צוגאָב אויף להבא, אַזוי אַז דער היינטיגער עיבור-יאָר זאָל זיין פאַר בית-רבקה אַן "איבער-יאָר" ווי אויבנדערמאָנט.
השם יתברך וועט זיכער ניט בלייבן הינטערשטעליג, ח"ו, און וועט יעדן איינעם און איינע באַגליקן מיט אַ צוגאָב ברכות אין אַלץ וואָס מ'נויטיגט זיך מיט די בני-בית שיחיו, בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
To the activists and friends of the Beis Rivkah schools in general, and to the participants in the annual Melaveh Malkah in particular—may Hashem be upon you, may you live—greetings and blessings!
This year's annual Melaveh Malkah takes place in the middle of the month of Adar Rishon, which is a special month in this leap year. The concept of a leap year is, as is known, connected with setting our festivals at their proper times. Our Jewish calendar follows the cycle of the moon; however, since the lunar year lags behind the solar year by about eleven days, every two or three years we have a leap year with an added month to make up for lost time so that our festivals fall at their correct seasons (Pesach in spring, Sukkos in autumn, etc.).
But like all matters in Jewish life—which besides their specific content also have general lessons for each and every one of us in daily life—so too with a leap year. The lesson from a leap year is: a Jew can accomplish within one year what he may have missed in previous years. Furthermore: just as a leap year is not only about making up lost days but also adds extra days ahead—it is not enough to merely make up what was missed; it is necessary to add even more going forward.
I hope that on the occasion of this annual Melaveh Malkah, when achievements of Beis Rivkah schools from past years will be recorded, it will also be considered that with just a bit more effort much more could have been accomplished. And certainly all activists and friends of Beis Rivkah who appreciate the vital importance of these educational institutions dedicated to purity and holiness will accept upon themselves the necessary resolutions—in actual deed—not only to make up for what could have been accomplished in past years but truly to add even more for the future so that this current leap year will be for Beis Rivkah an "over-year" as mentioned above.
May Hashem surely not remain behind—G‑d forbid—and may He bless each and every one with additional blessings in all that is needed for themselves and their families, materially and spiritually together.

The Rebbe teaches that just as a leap year allows us to make up lost time and add more ahead, so too we should strive not only to compensate for past shortcomings but also increase our efforts moving forward—especially regarding education and communal growth.
