To all participants in the annual dinner of Yeshivas Achei Tmimim in Newark—may Hashem be upon them and grant them life.
Shalom u'Vrachah!
The participants in this annual dinner will surely bring with them the spirit of the parsha Behaaloscha Es HaNeros (lighting the lamps), which is read this Shabbos before the celebration.
As the Alter Rebbe, author of Tanya and Shulchan Aruch and founder of Chabad, explains, the concept of lighting the Menorah in practical and daily life for every Jew is to ignite one's soul—which is compared to a menorah and a lamp, as it says: 'Ner Hashem Nishmas Adam' (the lamp of Hashem is the soul of man)—with the illumination of Torah and mitzvos: 'Ner Mitzvah v'Torah Or' (a mitzvah is a lamp and Torah is light).
The Menorah had seven lamps (seven branches with oil cups), corresponding to seven types of Jews who serve Hashem in seven different ways: through love, awe, Torah study, etc., as explained at length (Likkutei Torah, Parshas Behaaloscha).
This underscores each Jew's obligation not only to ignite his own lamp—his soul—with Torah and mitzvos and make his home a dwelling place and sanctuary for the Divine Presence, but also to help every Jew ignite their Divine spark and illuminate every Jewish home, of all types, so they too become fitting vessels for the Divine Presence and fulfill Hashem's will and promise: 'V'Shachanti B'Socham' (I will dwell among them)—to rest within each one.
Yeshivas Achei Tmimim in Newark is a Mishkan and Mikdash Me'at where Jewish children's souls are illuminated with the light of Torah and mitzvos. However, there are still many Jewish children—young souls—who still need to be ignited and illuminated.
Therefore it is so important that Yeshivas Achei Tmimim in Newark should not only be able to continue its activities but also expand its capacity to accept even more children.
Great is the merit of all esteemed supporters and friends who have a share in supporting and expanding this yeshiva.
May Hashem bless each one of you with success in this important endeavor as well as in your own needs—both materially and spiritually together.
