ומאחר שלומד בישיבה הק' תומכי תמימים אשר בלוד, בודאי למותר להאריך אשר הלימוד צריך להיות בהתמדה ושקידה נגלה וחסידות, ונוסף על העיקר שכן הוא ציווי השי"ת הרי זה גם צנור וכלי לקבלת ברכת השי"ת בהמצטרך.
ומהנכון אשר יבדקו את התפילין שלו וכן את המזוזות בבית הוריו שיחיו שתהיינה כולן כשרות כדין.
לכתבו אודות השליטה בעצמו. - המענה על זה מובן ממה שנתבאר בספר תניא קדישא, והנקודה שהמוח שליט על הלב, שהמלה שליט מורה [ע]ל שנים, א) שבאפשרית האדם להיות שליט ברוחו ב) שזהו ענין של שלטון והכרח, שבזה הכל שוין, ולא אתהפכא, ז. א. שמזמן לזמן אפשר שהיצר יחדש המלחמה, אלא שגם אז הקב"ה עוזרו יעוין שם בתניא.

In response to your letter from the 27th of Tammuz.
At an auspicious time you will be mentioned at the holy resting place of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal (may his merit protect us), for the fulfillment of your heart's desires for good.
Since you are studying at the holy Yeshivah Tomchei Temimim in Lod, it is surely unnecessary to elaborate that your learning should be with diligence and perseverance in both Nigleh (revealed Torah) and Chassidus. Besides being a commandment from Hashem, this is also a channel and vessel to receive Hashem's blessing in all needs.
It is proper that your tefillin be checked, as well as the mezuzos in your parents' home, to ensure they are all kosher according to halachah.
Regarding your question about self-control—the answer is understood from what is explained in Sefer Tanya Kadisha. The main point is that the mind rules over the heart; the word "rules" indicates two things: (a) it is possible for a person to control his spirit; (b) this is a matter of dominion and necessity—this applies equally to all people. It does not mean total transformation; i.e., from time to time the yetzer hara may renew its battle. Even then, however, Hashem helps him—see there in Tanya.
