Teaching Torah and Youth Group Inclusion for Children of Non-Jewish Mothers

The Rebbe clarifies that children whose mothers are not Jewish are halachically non-Jewish, so teaching them Torah (except the seven Noahide laws) and including them in Jewish youth groups is forbidden, as it risks assimilation. Waiting until age eighteen does not change this prohibition.

Shalom u'Vrachah!

They wrote regarding youth whose mother is not Jewish – the law is clear that status follows the mother, and therefore it is also forbidden to teach them Torah (except regarding the seven Noahide laws).

What may be even more important – their inclusion in a Jewish youth organization is extremely likely to lead to their assimilation, G‑d forbid, into the Jewish community – without any conversion (even if sometimes this is mentioned).

The explanation – to teach them and wait on the question of conversion until age eighteen – simply does not permit the above prohibition nor does it remove at all the above concern. Additionally, regarding conversion, only age thirteen is decisive.
