Shalom u'Vrachah!
The year of the histalkus (passing) of our Nasi, our revered teacher and master the Rebbe Rayatz zatzal, has concluded. The longing grows stronger as summer ends and winter passes and we have not been redeemed. But on the other hand, habit has its effect. There is reason to fear that the matter will become old, and that the light and warmth of our connection to our Nasi—to his Torah and his directives, which are all one—will gradually diminish, G‑d forbid.
These are the words that Moshe spoke regarding Torah: 'HaDevarim HaEleh Asher Anochi Metzavecha Hayom' ("These words which I command you today"), meaning: like a new royal decree (a king's letter) that everyone rushes to read. And regarding mitzvos: 'Mitzvotai Asher Anochi Metzaveh Etchem Hayom' ("My commandments which I command you today"), meaning: they should be upon you as new as if you heard them today.
From a copy of the original handwriting. It appears this is the beginning of a general letter that was not completed in writing.
Summary
Even after a year since a tzaddik's passing, we must keep our connection vibrant by treating Torah and mitzvos as ever-new directives—never letting routine dull their impact or our bond with our Rebbe.
