Haraha"g vaharaha"ch Baal Middos v'Rav Pe'alim Eliezer Zusia
Shalom u'Vrachah!
After the longest interval, your letter was received with good news about the organization in the newly acquired house, synagogue, and also study hall. May it be G‑d's will that this should be at an auspicious and successful time both materially and spiritually together. As emphasized in the saying we have heard many times from my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, of blessed memory, that Hashem gives Jews materiality and they make from materiality spirituality.
This is also the theme of this week's Torah portion—the portion of Matan Torah (the Giving of the Torah)—that Torah is the wisdom and will of the Holy One Blessed Be He, and it was given specifically to those who descended to Egypt and among whom there is an evil inclination, etc. It is precisely this claim that led to "Ala L'Marom Shavit Shavi" (He ascended on high; He took captives) (Tehillim 68:19).
May it be G‑d's will that these two matters be united—the study hall (Torah learning, whose purpose is to bring action—fulfillment of mitzvos) and the synagogue (prayer for a person's needs and their fulfillment by He Who nourishes and sustains all with His goodness, grace, kindness, and mercy—including obviously also simply material needs in visible and revealed goodness), as explained also in our Sages' teaching that true goodness is: good for Heaven (spirituality), good for people (materiality), and goodness that produces fruit—impacting others both materially and spiritually together.
With honor and blessing for good news.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that our task is to unite material pursuits with spiritual purpose—transforming physical blessings into spiritual achievements through Torah study, mitzvah observance, prayer, and positively influencing others in both realms.
