Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from the 8th of Iyar, in which you write about setting the summer vacation time for the upcoming summer, noting several reasons for changing the arrangement that has existed until now. At the end of your letter, you mention that it is necessary to consult about this matter and its details according to local conditions—that is, the conditions of the students' homes and their parents—and naturally also to take into account the arrangements in France in educational institutions dedicated to holiness like yours.
The general points in this matter, even if not always openly stated, are: a) The less one reduces time away from learning holy subjects, the better—this is obvious and simple. b) When there are no secular studies, it is then possible for the student to absorb more thoroughly and deeply in holy studies since they are not occupied with other matters. c) Another point is that this also emphasizes for the student the distinction between holy and secular, between light and darkness—when there are set times for study as opposed to when the main study is supplemented by other things.
As mentioned above, this comes as a general point. In practice, although one must take into account what was said above, it is necessary to consider all these stated conditions.
With blessings for outstanding success in your sacred work—education in purity for Jewish girls, each of whom is called a daughter of Sarah, Rivka, Rachel, and Leah.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that minimizing vacation from Torah study enhances spiritual growth. He encourages balancing practical considerations with a strong emphasis on maintaining educational sanctity and maximizing opportunities for learning holiness.
