במענה על מכתבו מלפני חג הפסח, בו כותב שישנם שינויים בעבודתו בכלל ובעבודת התפלה בפרט. הרי מבואר הענין בכמה מקומות בתורת הדא"ח - מתחיל מספר התניא - אשר לאום מלאום יאמץ. ובידו הדבר תלוי. אלא שצריך לדעת, שכמו בכבוש ארץ ישראל בגשמיות, הי' הסדר דמעט מעט אגרשנו - ע"ד זה הוא בכבוש ארץ ישראל הרוחנית שבכל אחד ואחד מישראל [וכמבואר הענין ארץ - רצון, וכמרז"ל שרצתה לעשות רצון קונה. ישראל - כי שרית עם אלקים ואנשים ותוכל], ואדרבה, כשח"ו רואים שינוי לגריעותא, צריך לעורר זה תוספת בכחות הגלוים והתעוררות דכחות הנעלמים בהתבוננותו אשר מה זה עשה ה' ככה וכו', וכמבואר בתניא. והשי"ת יצליחו להשפיע על סביבתו בכגון דא - שזה מוסיף בהסייעתא דשמיא בהנוגע לו.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from before Pesach, in which you write that there are fluctuations in your service of Hashem in general and especially in prayer. This matter is explained in several places in the teachings of Chassidus—beginning with Sefer HaTanya—that "Le'om miLe'om ye'ematz" (one nation will strengthen itself over the other), and it depends on one's own efforts.
However, one must know that just as with the physical conquest of Eretz Yisrael, the order was "me'at me'at agarsheinu" (little by little I will drive them out)—so too is it with conquering the spiritual Eretz Yisrael within every Jew [as explained: Eretz means will or desire, as our Sages say that it wanted to do the will of its Creator; Yisrael—as in "ki sarita im Elokim va'anashim vatuchal" (for you have struggled with G‑d and men and prevailed)].
On the contrary, when one unfortunately sees a negative change, this should arouse an increase in revealed strengths and an awakening of hidden powers through contemplation on "mah zeh asah Hashem kachah" (what has G‑d done so), as explained in Tanya.
May Hashem grant you success to influence your surroundings in such matters—for this adds to Heavenly assistance regarding your own service.

The Rebbe teaches that inconsistency in serving Hashem is normal and should be met with renewed effort. Spiritual growth happens gradually; setbacks are opportunities to strengthen one's resolve and inspire others, bringing increased Divine assistance.
