במענה על מכתבו מי"ב שבט. בו כותב אודות המצב הכלכלי במשפחתם אשר פרנסתו עולה לו בקשוי, ובפרט שעליו לפרנס גם שאר בני המשפחה, ובמילא שואל האם ננעלו שערי שמים ח"ו ומדוע דרך ריקים צלחה.
והנה למותר להאריך אשר השאלה, לא רק מדוע דרך ריקים צלחה אלא אפילו דרך רשעים, כבר נשאלה ע"י משה רבנו (ברכות ז' ע"א) ועברו מאז כמה אלפים שנה ובני ישראל הולכים בדרך התורה והמצוה ודוקא על ידי זה קיימת אומתנו, וכמ"ש ואתם הדבקים בה' אלקיכם (הרי דוקא עי"ז ורק עי"ז) חיים כולכם היום. והוא הדין בהנוגע לכל אחד ואחת מאתנו, ובאם יש ענינים שבאים בקושי ובפרט בעניני פרנסה, הרי אין זה ח"ו מפני ששומרים התורה והמצוה, אלא אדרבה, ועל ידי התחזקות בבטחון בהשי"ת הזן ומפרנס לכל בחסד וברחמים ממעטים הקישוים בזה, וסוף סוף משתפר גם המצב של הפרנסה, והסגולה לזה הוא גם כן להרבות בתורה ובמצוה וכמ"ש אם בחקותי תלכו ואת מצותי תשמרו כו' ונתתי וגו'.
בטח ידוע לו מתקנת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע לאמר בכל יום אחר תפלת שחרית שיעור תהלים - כפי שנחלק התהלים לימי החדש - וישמור עלי' עכ"פ מכאן ולהבא, ויה"ר שגם זה ימהר הטבת מצבו.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from the 12th of Shevat. You write about the financial situation in your family, that your livelihood comes with difficulty, especially since you must also support other family members. Therefore, you ask whether, G‑d forbid, the gates of Heaven are closed and why the way of the empty-handed prospers.
It is unnecessary to elaborate that this question—not only why the way of the empty-handed prospers but even the way of the wicked—was already asked by Moshe Rabbeinu (Berachos 7a), and thousands of years have passed since then. The Jewish people continue to follow the path of Torah and mitzvos, and it is precisely through this that our nation exists, as it is written: "Ve'atem ha'dveikim ba'Hashem Elokeichem" (And you who cling to Hashem your G‑d) (meaning: it is specifically and only through this) "are all alive today." The same applies to each one of us; if there are matters that come with difficulty—especially regarding livelihood—it is certainly not because one observes Torah and mitzvos. On the contrary! By strengthening trust in Hashem, Who nourishes and sustains all with kindness and mercy, these difficulties are lessened, and ultimately even one's livelihood improves. A further segulah for this is to increase Torah study and mitzvah observance, as it is written: "Im bechukosai teileichu v'es mitzvosai tishmeru... v'nasati..." (If you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments... I will give...).
You surely know of the directive from my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal, to recite a daily portion of Tehillim after Shacharis—according to how Tehillim is divided for the days of the month—and at least from now on you should be careful about this. May it be His will that this too will hasten an improvement in your situation.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that financial struggles are not a result of Torah observance; rather, strengthening trust in Hashem and increasing Torah study and mitzvah observance can help alleviate difficulties. Reciting daily Tehillim is also recommended as a spiritual aid for improvement.
