במענה על מכתבו מג' שבט, הנה ת"ח על ידיעות הטובות מהתועדות ביום הבהיר י"ט כסלו חג גאולתנו ופדות נפשנו ומקיום האמור באגרת הקדש לרבנו הזקן בסופו בעל השמחה שחלקו המסכתות של הש"ס בין המשתתפים בהתועדות, וגודל הענין בזה אין צורך ביאור, לאחרי שנצטוינו בהנ"ל עד"ז, ובפרט ע"פ המובן מהסוגיא דמלאכה שאי אפשר לעשותה אלא ע"י שנים ורבים שאז נחשב כאילו כל אחד מהם עשה כולה (עיין שבת צ"ג ע"ב), הרי גם בלימוד וסיום הש"ס מבין כולם ע"פ תורה ה"ז כאילו כל אחד ואחד מהם התחיל וגמר כל הש"ס ליום המיועד.
ויה"ר שיהי' לימודם מתוך שמחה ובהתחברות עם לימוד פנימיות התורה נשמתא דאורייתא, שאז גם לימוד הנגלה גופא דאורייתא הוא בחיות נפלא ובהתקשרות בגלוי וסתים דישראל אורייתא וקוב"ה עד שכולא חד, ובפרט שמקום ההתחלה והסיום הוא בבית הכנסת שמתאחד קו התפלה וקו התורה גם יחד.
בברכה ובפ"ש כל המשתתפים בחלוקת הש"ס המתועדים ומתפללי ולומדי ביהכ"נ שלהם.

In response to your letter from the 3rd of Shevat, thank you for the good news about the farbrengen on the bright day of Yud-Tes Kislev, our festival of redemption and the liberation of our souls, and for fulfilling what is stated in Iggeres HaKodesh by our Rebbe at its end—the one who rejoices—by dividing the tractates of Shas among those present at the farbrengen. The greatness of this matter needs no explanation, since we have been commanded regarding this and similar matters. Especially as understood from the sugya about work that can only be done by two or more people, where it is considered as if each one did all of it (see Shabbos 93b), so too in learning and completing Shas together according to Torah it is as if each person began and finished all of Shas on the appointed day.
May it be G‑d's will that their learning be with joy and in connection with learning Pnimiyus HaTorah—the soul of Torah—so that even their study of Nigleh itself is full of wondrous vitality and connection in both revealed and hidden aspects of Israel, Torah, and the Holy One Blessed Be He until all is one. Especially since the beginning and completion take place in a synagogue where both prayer and Torah study are united.

Summary
The Rebbe teaches that when many join together to divide Shas at a public farbrengen, each participant is credited as if they completed all of Shas. This unity brings special blessing when combined with joy, inner Torah study, and takes place in a synagogue.
