דאס האבען מיר געהערט פון מיין שווער כ"ק אדמו"ר, אין דער צייט פון דער לעצטער וועלט מלחמה, און אויך האבען מיר געזעהן במוחש - פעסט געשטעלטן פאקט - אז די אלע אידען וועלכע האבען אפגעהיט דאס לייגען תפילין זייענדיג אין דער ארמיי, זיינען געקומען גאנצערהייט געזונט אהיים.
עס טרעפט אז בא די מאניעוורעס אדער עקסערסייס, ווען עס איז ניט מעגליך צו באווייזען לייגען תפילין אין דער פרי, דארפמען וויסען אז מען קען דאס טאן - לייגען תפילין - אין פארלויף פון גאנצען טאג ביז זון אונטערגאנג, לכל הפחות אנטאן די תפילין און זאגען אין זיי קריאת שמע און דערנאך אויסטאן זיי - אויב עס איז ניט מעגליך א ליינגערע צייט, צו זאגען אויך די אנדערע תפלות - און די פאר מינוט קען מען געפינען אלע צייט זייענדיג אין דער ארמיי, אפילו אין דער צייט פון מאניעוורעס אדער עקסערסייס, און דאס גלייכען. און איך בין זיכער אז איר וועט געפינען די פאסענדע ווערטער ערקלערען דאס אויבען געזאגטע צו אייער זון שי', און השם יתברך וועט אים בריינגען אין דער באשטימטער צייט גאנץ געזונט אהיים צוריק.
איך שליס מיט א וואונש פאר א כשר'ן פרייליכן יום טוב פסח פאר אייך און אייערע בני בית, און א גרוס צו אייער ברודער מר ... שי' וועלכער איז געווען דא מיט א צייט צוריק און מיר האבען דענסטמאל געהאט א ליינגערן געשפרעך.

It is surely unnecessary to emphasize that you should write to your son Mr. ... that as much as it is every Jew's duty at all times to lay tefillin, it is especially important for someone who is in the army. Laying tefillin protects them and ultimately brings them home safely at the appointed time.
We have heard this from my father-in-law, the Rebbe, during the time of the last World War, and we have also seen it with our own eyes—a firmly established fact—that all those Jews who kept laying tefillin while in the army returned home safe and sound.
It happens that during maneuvers or exercises when it is not possible to lay tefillin in the morning, one should know that it can be done throughout the entire day until sunset—at least to put on tefillin and say Shema while wearing them and then remove them if it is not possible to spend more time or say other prayers. These few minutes can always be found even while in the army, even during maneuvers or exercises and similar situations.
I am sure you will find suitable words to explain the above to your son, and may Hashem Yisborach bring him home safely at the appointed time.
I conclude with a wish for a kosher and joyous Pesach for you and your family members, and regards to your brother Mr. ... who was here some time ago and with whom I had a lengthy conversation then.
