במענה על מכתבו מיום ב' לס' לך, בו מתאר מצב הישיש הוו"ח אי"א וכו' ר' . . שי' ושואל חוות דעתי בנוגע הב' ברירות שיש לו, או לדור אצל ביהכ"נ או בבית ששם דרות שתי בנותיו אבל אין שם בית כנסת בסביבה,
הנה בגיל שלו חשוב הוא שיהי' בין אנשים ובפרט שהורגל לזה מעודו, ולכן נראה לי הסבר[א] הראשונה, היינו שימצאו לו דירה מתאמת סמוך לבית הכנסת וישתדלו אשר גם שאר התנאים בענין ההשגחה עליו וכו' יהיו ג"כ באופן המתאים בשבילו.
ומטובו למסור ל... שי' איחולי הלבביים לאריכות ימים ושנים טובות, טובות כפשוטו ממש, היינו במנוחת הנפש ומנוחת הגוף, וטובות כדרשת רז"ל כי אין טוב אלא תורה ומצוה, היינו שיהיו ימיו ושנותיו ממולאים בתורה ומצוות. ועל פי מה שפירש הרמב"ם ז"ל בהל' דיעות בענין בכל דרכיך דעהו, והובא ג"כ בטושו"ע או"ח סי' רלא, הנה מובן אשר כל רגע ורגע מזמן חיי האדם יכול להיות ממולא בתורה ומצוות שהם טוב אמתי.

In response to your letter from Monday of Parshas Lech Lecha, in which you describe the situation of the elderly vavac"h iy"a etc. Reb ... shiy' and ask my opinion regarding the two options he has: either to live near a synagogue or in the home where his two daughters live but where there is no synagogue nearby. At his age, it is important for him to be among people, especially since he has been accustomed to this his whole life. Therefore, it seems to me that the first option is preferable—that is, to find him a suitable apartment near a synagogue and to ensure that all other conditions regarding his care are also appropriate for him.
It would be good if you would convey to ... shiy' my heartfelt wishes for long days and good years—good in the most literal sense: tranquility of soul and body; and good as our Sages expound: 'There is no good but Torah and mitzvah,' meaning that his days and years should be filled with Torah and mitzvos.
Based on what the Rambam z"l explains in Hilchos Deos regarding 'Bechol Derachecha Da'eihu' (In all your ways know Him), which is also brought in Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim siman 231, it is understood that every single moment of a person's life can be filled with Torah and mitzvos, which are true good.
