איך בין געווען צופרידן צו באקומען א גוטן גרוס פון אייך דורך ידידנו הוו"ח אי"א נו"נ מו"מ באמונה עוסק בצרכי ציבור משכיל על דבר טוב וכו' וכו' מו"ה יעקב הכהן שי' כ"ץ[1], ווי אויך דעם טשעק אלס התחלה אויף אייער אונטערנעמונג צו אפדרוקן א ספר פון די ווערק פון כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע.
איך האף אז איר געדיינקט זיכער אונזער געשפרעך ווען איר זייט דא געווען, און אז אייער זון שי' לעגט תפילין טעגליך, ווי איך האב מיט אייך גערעדט, און וועט אנהאלטן דערמיט, וואס דאס וועט ברענגען ברכה והצלחה עם און אייך אין אלע ענינים.
אזוי ווי עס גייט צו פורים, וואס איז פארבונדן מיט שמחה בא אידן, וויל איך פארענדיקן מיט א געדאנק, וואס מיין שווער דער רבי כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר האט ערקלערט אין דער שיחה פון פורים תש"א, ווען עס האבן זיך אנגעהויבן די גזירות פון יענער צייט:
דער ענין פון פורים איז וואס ניט קוקנדיק אויף דער גזירה וואס המן הרשע האט געוועלט דורכפירן געגן די אידן דערפאר וואס זיי זיינען אידן, האבן זיך די אידן נאך פעסטער געהאלטן בא זייער אידישקייט און זיינען געווען שטאלץ דערמיט. דערפאר איז בטל געווארן די גזירה און עס איז געווארן ונהפוך הוא, פון טרויער אויף שמחה. אזוי אין אלע צייטן, ווען מיר אידן וועלן [זיין] שטאלץ דערמיט וואס מיר זיינען אידן און האלטן זיך פעסט בא אידישקייט, ניט קוקנדיק אויף די שטערונגען וואס דאס ברענגט, וועלן מיר באפרייט ווערן פון אלע המן'ס, סיי די המן'ס אין גשמיות אין סיי די המן'ס אין רוחניות, און עס וועט זיין ליהודים אורה ושמחה וששון ויקר.

I was pleased to receive a good greeting from you through our friend, the vavac"h iy"a nu"n mom be'emunah ossek b'tzorchei tzibbur maskil al davar tov etc. etc. Yaakov HaKohen Katz, as well as the check as a start for your undertaking to publish a sefer of the works of my father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal nbg"m zya"a.
I hope that you surely remember our conversation when you were here, and that your son puts on tefillin daily, as I spoke with you about, and will continue with this, which will bring blessing and success to you and yours in all matters.
As we approach Purim, which is associated with joy among Jews, I wish to conclude with a thought that my father-in-law the Rebbe explained in his Purim 5701 sichah when the decrees of that time began: The essence of Purim is that despite Haman's decree against the Jews simply because they were Jews, the Jews held even more firmly to their Judaism and were proud of it. Therefore, the decree was nullified and it became 'VeNahafoch Hu' (it was turned around), from mourning to joy.
So too in all times: when we Jews are proud of being Jews and hold fast to Judaism despite any obstacles this brings, we will be freed from all Hamans—both physical Hamans and spiritual Hamans—and there will be for the Jews light and gladness and joy and honor.
