Your letter in which you wrote about the Torah gathering in your synagogue was received after some delay, and due to many preoccupations my response was also delayed; please accept my apology.
I thank you for the pleasure your letter gave me by informing me about the spiritual elevation experienced by the participants in the gathering—both the yeshivah students and the baalei-batim—and it is hoped that this gathering will become an annual tradition in your community.
Since action is what matters most, surely this spiritual elevation and general awakening will be expressed in concrete deeds: increasing fixed times for Torah study—study that leads to practical fulfillment of mitzvos in daily life—and spreading true Judaism in general, especially in your community and our camp of holiness, going from strength to strength to fulfill our Sages' teaching: "Ma'alin bakodesh" (we ascend in holiness).
May it be G‑d's will that it be fulfilled for each one of us, among all Israel, in all these activities, what our Sages said: "One who has a hundred desires two hundred; if he attains two hundred he desires four hundred." If this is so even regarding material matters, how much more so regarding spiritual and eternal matters—matters of Torah and its mitzvos.
