הפתעה נעימה הי' לי מכתבו מיום ל' בניסן, אחרי ההפסק הארוך מאז פגישתנו, ועוד יותר מתוכן מכתבו, בו כותב אודות תכנית מבצע מזוזה, בדוגמת מבצע תפילין, וכו'. שזה נותן לי תקוה חזקה שככל שידו מגעת עושה מר בהפצת היהדות וערכי' וגם באופן שהוא מנקודות העיקריות של מצות מזוזה - בפרהסיא, שהרי מזוזה מקומה על פתח ביתו מבחוץ, היפך הסיסמה הידועה "הי' יהודי בביתך ואדם בצאתך", אשר תוצאותי' לא אחרו לבוא, הן בשעת מעשה, קרע נפשי, ולאחרי משך זמן, שהבית נהפך לחוץ.
מובן שאתבונן עוד הפעם
בתוכנית המבצע האמור
שהעלה מר במכתבו.
כותב אני "עוד הפעם", כי לפני שנים אחדות כאשר ניסו לעשות בזה, נתקלו בקושיים מיוחדים, שהרי במבצע זה צריך לבקר את בעל הבית בביתו, ושיהי' מן המוכן המזוזה וכל הדרוש לקביעת המזוזה, ועל פי רוב צריך לשכנע גם את בני הבית, ולא די בשיכנוע ראש המשפחה, מה שאין כל זה במבצע תפילין. שלכן רק במקרים מיוחדים השתדלו גם בנוגע לקביעת מזוזה.
עם כל זה, ובמיוחד על פי תורת החסידות אשר
כל ענין הוא בהשגחה פרטית
, וקבלתי מכתב מר מעורר בענין זה, ובודאי זו היא הוראה שצריך להתבונן בענין זה עוד הפעם.

והשטח בו עסק בהיותו בניו-יורק, שאז כמובן יש לו ענין רב במה שמותר לגלות, ואם כן כל המפרט הרי זה משובח, ותודתי אמורה לו מראש.

Your letter from the 30th of Nissan was a pleasant surprise to me after the long break since our meeting, and even more so because of its content, in which you write about the plan for a Mezuzah campaign similar to the Tefillin campaign, etc. This gives me strong hope that you are doing as much as you can in spreading Judaism and its values—and also in a manner that is one of the main points of the mitzvah of Mezuzah: publicly. After all, the Mezuzah is placed on the outside doorpost of one's home, contrary to the well-known slogan "Be a Jew at home and a person outside," whose consequences did not take long to appear—both immediately (tearing one's soul) and after some time when the home itself becomes like the outside.
It is understood that I will consider again the plan for this campaign that you raised in your letter. I write again because several years ago when an attempt was made in this area, special difficulties were encountered. In this campaign one must visit the homeowner at his house; there must be a ready Mezuzah and everything needed for affixing it; and usually it is necessary to convince also other family members—not just the head of household—which is not required in the Tefillin campaign. Therefore, only in special cases did they also try regarding affixing Mezuzahs.
Nevertheless—and especially according to Chassidus, which teaches that everything happens by Divine Providence—and since I received your letter awakening this matter, surely this is an instruction to consider this matter once again.
It is not clear from your letter whether you continue in the same position and field you worked in while in New York; if so, obviously you have much interest in what can be revealed. If so—the more details provided, the better; my thanks are expressed to you in advance.
