Shalom u'Vrachah!
In the past few months when I used to call you on the night before Rosh Chodesh, I saw that, thank G‑d, there were no special problems—just the usual matters, more or less the same from month to month. And I am confident and hopeful that especially this year, which began with Shabbat (rest), things will be even better.
Since the Torah is concerned about the money of Israel—spending Jewish money on long-distance telephone calls for no particular reason is unnecessary. Especially according to the Baal Shem Tov's teaching: that in thought one can be united with another—so we are truly together.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that when there are no pressing issues, it is unnecessary to spend money on long-distance calls; spiritual connection through thought is genuine and meaningful.
