במענה למכתבו מז' באלול, ובהתאם לסגנון מכתבו הנני עונה למר שלא בתור, ובפרט שלדעתי השאלה אינה רק אישית בלבד, ככתבו, אלא גם ענין הנוגע לרבים.
והיא, הימשיך בתפקידו ומשרתו במקומו עתה, או שיקבל תפקיד המוצע לו בחברה להשקעות וכו'.
והנה מבלי להכנס לפרטי ההצעה לתפקיד חדש, הרי משרתו עתה היא בשטח הבטחוני, ובודאי אין הזמן גרמא כלל לעשות משהו שאפשר שיגע ויגרע בשטח זה.
ואפילו אם תמצא לומר שימצאו ממלא מקום וכו', הרי אינו דומה מי שיש לו ותק וידע בשטח זה מכמה זמן, לפנים חדשות, שתמיד ישנם סיבוכי קליטה והתאמה בין עובד חדש להמנגנון, ובפרט להעומדים על גביו.
בטח הי' יחסי לשאלה האמורה אותו שהוא עכשיו – גם לפני כמה וכמה שבועות, אבל עכשיו – ביתר שאת, ועל אחת כמה וכמה שכן היא דעתי בהחלט בקשר עם המצב בהוה, שדרוש ביותר שלא יהי' כל זיעזוע, אפילו זיעזוע קל, במסגרת המנגנון הבטחוני. ובפרט כפי שסיפר לי מר בביקורו כאן ומרמז על זה גם במכתבו זה, שעומד הוא בקשר הדוק עם העומדים בראש. ואם בעבר הלואי והיו אוחזים בקו תקיף יותר ולא היו מקבלים דעת הפשרנים והמוותרים, הרי בודאי שכן הי' צריך להיות עתה שכבר נוכחו בזה אפילו (על כל פנים חלק מ)הפשרנים, ולמרות זה ניכרת גם עתה נטי' מכמה אנשים שיש להם השפעה להמשיך בויתורים ובתחנונים וכו' (אף על פי שנוכחו שכל הצעה של פשרה מתפרשת בכל קצוי תבל כסימן מובהק לחולשה, ותיכף ומיד מביאה להתקפה עוד יותר), אי לזאת הרי מוכרחת עוד יותר נוכחות כל אלה התומכים בקו האמור בתפקידים שיש להם השפעה בשטח זה, ובפרט אלה שיש להם השפעה ישירה. והרי תקותי אשר מר הוא מאלה שתומכים בלבב שלם בסמכות עם ישראל שכדאי הוא לבטוח עליו, על אחת כמה וכמה צור ישראל הוא ה' יתברך ויתעלה, אשר

In response to your letter from the 7th of Elul, and according to its style I am replying out of turn—especially since I believe the question is not only personal as you wrote, but also concerns the public. The question is whether you should continue in your current position and role or accept the offered position at an investment company, etc.
Without entering into the details of the new job offer, your current role is in the security field. Certainly now is not at all a time to do anything that could possibly harm or diminish this area. Even if one would argue that a replacement could be found, there is no comparison between someone with experience and knowledge in this field for some time and a newcomer—there are always complications of integration and adjustment between a new employee and the system, especially with those above him.
Surely your attitude toward this question was as it is now—even several weeks ago—but now even more so; all the more so my definite opinion regarding the current situation is that it is most necessary that there be no disturbance whatsoever—not even a slight one—in the framework of the security apparatus.
Especially as you told me during your visit here (and hint at this also in your letter) that you are closely connected with those at the top. If in the past it would have been better had they taken a firmer stance and not accepted the views of compromisers and those who concede, then certainly now—when even (at least some of) those compromisers have realized this—it should be so. Nevertheless, there are still tendencies among some influential people to continue concessions and pleading (even though it has become clear that every compromise proposal is interpreted worldwide as a clear sign of weakness and immediately leads to further attacks). Therefore, it is even more essential for all those who support this firm approach to be present in influential positions in this field—especially those with direct influence.
I hope that you are among those who wholeheartedly support trusting in Am Yisrael's authority—which is worthy of reliance—and all the more so trusting in Tzur Yisrael, Hashem may He be blessed and exalted. As written: 'His eyes are upon Eretz HaKodesh (and upon His holy nation wherever they are) from the beginning of the year until year's end,' and 'He walks among the camp of Israel to save them and deliver their enemies before them.'
Certainly for your understanding there is no need for further explanation regarding my position on this matter.
I wish you success in utilizing your talents and abilities fully to strengthen all matters of security—with trust in Elokei Yisrael and Am Yisrael—beginning with these days of Elul. The custom among Bnei Yisrael during this month is to recite twice daily: 'Hashem Ori Veyishi Mimi Ira (Hashem is my light and salvation; whom shall I fear?), Hashem Ma'oz Chayai Mimi Efchad (Hashem is my life's stronghold; whom shall I dread?). If an army encamps against me my heart will not fear... And now my head will be raised above my enemies around me... Hope to Hashem; strengthen yourself and He will give courage to your heart.'
