עס האט מיר געפרייט צו באקומען די מיטטיילונג וועגן דעם קומענדיגען יערלעכן חנוכה-דינער, וואס וועט דעם יאר פארצייכ[ע]נען דעם 25'יעריגען עקזיסטענץ פון דער ליובאוויטשער ישיבה אין מאנטרעאל.
בא דער געלעגנהייט זאל אויך אונטערשטראכן ווערן, אז היינטיגס יאר האט א ספעציעלע באדייטונג פאר חינוך, זייענדיג א יאר פון הקהל , ווי דער ענין איז ארומגערעדט געווארן אין דעם בריוו צו ראש-השנה. די מצוה פון הקהל - פארזאמלען דעם פאלק: מענער, פרויען און קינדער, אין בית-המקדש, צו הערן פרשיות פון דער תורה, וועלכע זיינען געלייענט געווארן דורך דעם מלך, כדי צו דערוועקן אין זיי יראת השם און שטארקען זייער טעגלעכע אויפפירונג על פי תורה ומצוות - האט ארויסגערופן אין יעדן איינעם, מאן און פרוי, א פארשטארקטן געפיל
פון אחריות פאר חינוך על טהרת הקודש - אן אחריות און פליכט
וועלכע דארפן דערפילט ווערן אלע יאר, און אין דעם יאר פון הקהל נאך מער.
כאטש אין דער היינטיגער צייט איז די פאראנטווארטלעכקייט פאר חינוך, אין א גרויסער מאס, אריבערגעטראגן געווארן אויף די מוסדות חינוך מיט זייערע לערער און מחנכים, מיינט דאס אבער ניט, אז עלטערן זיינען באפרייט געווארן פון זייער פערזענלעכע פליכט מקיים צו זיין די מצוה פון ושננתם לבניך - איינצופלאנצן אין זייערע קינדער תורה מיט יראת שמים און קיום המצוות אין טאג-טעגלעכן לעבן. דאס דארף זיך אויסדריקן, קודם כל, אין דעם חינוך, הדרכה און השפעה אין דע[ר] היים, און אויך אין דער אקטיווער מיטארבעט מיט דעם מוסד חינוך און לערער, צו העלפן זיי דורכפירן זייער שליחות, אלס פארשטייער פון די עלטערן, אין דער פולסטער מאס, און פון זייער זייט מקיים צו זיין דעם ושננתם לבניך - אלו התלמידים.
אזוי ווי דער דינער קומט פאר אין דעם יום-טוב חנוכה, און געציילטע טעג נאך יום הגאולה פון דעם אלטן רבי'ן, בעל התניא והשולחן ערוך, איז צו האפן, אז אלע אנטיילנעמער וועלן ברענגען צום אויסדרוק דעם גייסט און אינהאלט פון די דאזיגע ליכטיגע טעג, דורך א פארשטארקטע טעטיקייט לטובת דעם מוסד וואס ווערט אנגעפירט אין דעם גייסט פון דעם בעל הגאולה, וואס דאס מיינט לטובת דעם חינוך פון די קינדער-תלמידים שיחיו.
השם יתברך זאל העלפן, אז די הארמאנישע צוזאמענארבעט און פרוכטבארע טעטיקייט זאל כסדר שטייגן און וואקסן, אין איינקלאנג מיט דעם אנזאג מעלין בקודש , ווי דאס ווערט אויך ארויסגעבראכט אין דער מצוה פון נר חנוכה - מוסיף והולך - אנצינדען נאך א לייכטענדע ליכטעלע יעדע נאכט פון חנוכה, און וואס מער פארשפרייטן די ליכטיקייט פון נר מצוה ותורה אור.
בברכה להצלחה און צו א פריילעכן און ליכטיגען חנוכה.

To the participants in the annual Chanukah dinner of the Parents and Teachers Association of Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch in Montreal
Shalom u'Vrachah!
I was pleased to receive the notice about the upcoming annual Chanukah dinner, which this year will mark the 25th anniversary of the existence of the Lubavitch Yeshiva in Montreal.
On this occasion it should also be emphasized that this year has special significance for chinuch (education), being a Hakhel year, as discussed in my letter for Rosh HaShanah.
The mitzvah of Hakhel—gathering the people: men, women, and children, in the Beis HaMikdash to hear portions from the Torah read by the king in order to awaken within them awe of Hashem and strengthen their daily conduct according to Torah and mitzvos—has aroused within everyone, man and woman alike, a heightened sense of responsibility for chinuch al taharas hakodesh (education in purity and holiness)—a responsibility and obligation that must be fulfilled every year, and even more so in this Hakhel year.
Although nowadays much of the responsibility for education has been transferred to educational institutions with their teachers and educators, this does not mean that parents are absolved from their personal duty to fulfill the mitzvah of "veshinantam levanecha" (you shall teach them diligently to your children)—to instill in their children Torah with yiras Shamayim (awe of Heaven) and observance of mitzvos in daily life.
This must be expressed first and foremost through education, guidance, and influence at home, as well as through active cooperation with the educational institution and teachers—to help them carry out their mission as representatives of the parents to the fullest extent—and from their side to fulfill "veshinantam levanecha" regarding these students.
Since this dinner takes place during Chanukah and just days after Yud Tes Kislev—the Festival of Redemption of the Alter Rebbe, author of Tanya and Shulchan Aruch—it is hoped that all participants will express the spirit and content of these luminous days through increased activity for the benefit of an institution conducted in the spirit of the Baal HaGeulah (the Redeemer), which means for the benefit of educating children—the students—may they live.
May Hashem help that harmonious cooperation and fruitful activity should continually increase and grow, in accordance with "ma'alin bakodesh" (ascending in holiness), as is also expressed in the mitzvah of Ner Chanukah—"mosif v'holech" (increasing each night)—lighting an additional candle each night of Chanukah, thereby spreading even more light from Ner Mitzvah v'Torah Or (the candle is a mitzvah and Torah is light).

Summary
The Rebbe teaches that even when schools take on much educational responsibility, parents remain personally obligated to instill Torah values at home. Especially during a Hakhel year, collaborative efforts between parents and educators are vital for nurturing children’s spiritual growth.
