Shalom u'Vrachah!

With pleasure I received your letter from Wednesday, 4 Sivan, regarding the graduation of the students of eighth grade, which will take place G‑d willing on the 15th (17th) of Sivan.

I was especially pleased to learn that some of the students—and you writers in particular—will continue your studies in yeshiva. Fortunate are you and how good is your portion that you have merited this.

My hope is that you will influence others so that all will continue in yeshiva to study our holy Torah, a Torah of life, so called because it gives life to those who learn and observe it—not only eternal life in the World to Come but also literal life in this world: a happy life both materially and spiritually. Since this is for their benefit and for their families', the mitzvah of VeAhavta LeRei'acha Kamocha ("Love your fellow as yourself"), which is a great principle in the Torah, obligates you to try to influence them to continue learning in yeshiva. Words that come from the heart enter the heart.

These days are days of compensation for the time of Matan Torateinu (the giving of our Torah); they are auspicious days. The hope is that you celebrated Kabbalat HaTorah with joy and inwardness and will continue this joy throughout the year until every day Torah words are as new in your eyes—as our sages instructed—just as when the Torah was given by Moshe Rabbeinu at Mount Sinai.

It will please me to hear good news about all this.
