Yeshivas Achei Temimim Lubavitch Pittsburgh, PA.

Shalom u'Vrachah!

For the annual undertaking, I send my heartfelt greetings and blessing to the esteemed activists and friends of the Lubavitcher Yeshiva Achei Temimim in Pittsburgh, and express my inner hope that this endeavor will more than justify all expectations.

It is well known what the Alter Rebbe, author of Tanya and Shulchan Aruch, said: "A Jew must live with the times"—that is, with the time and spirit of the weekly Torah portion. The timeliness of this undertaking is reflected in the Torah portions read these weeks, which speak about the Mishkan.

The purpose of the Mishkan is expressed in the words: Ve'asu Li Mikdash V'Shachanti B'Tocham ("And they shall make Me a sanctuary and I will dwell among them")—to enable that Hashem should cause His Shechinah to rest among all Jews and within each Jew individually. Hashem is everywhere (Melo Kol Haaretz Kevodo—"The whole earth is filled with His glory") and does not need a Mishkan for Himself; if He wanted a Mishkan He could have established one without human help. But Hashem wanted every Jew to have a share in the Mishkan by contributing gold and silver etc., and Jews understood how to value this great merit connected with it, responding with such enthusiasm that it had to be announced "Enough!"

Our Sages, of blessed memory, say that after the destruction of the Beis HaMikdash, our study halls and synagogues—where Jews learn and pray—are "miniature sanctuaries." In these holy institutions Hashem causes His Shechinah to rest; those who support and sustain yeshivas are equal partners with the students in spreading G‑dliness among all Jews.

Therefore it is hoped that everyone will respond with personal warmth and dedication for the benefit of the Lubavitcher Yeshiva, just as men and women responded for the Mishkan. This also creates "vessels" to receive Hashem's blessings in everything needed—for oneself and one's entire family—for both material and spiritual matters.

With honor and blessing.

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that supporting Torah institutions like yeshivas makes one a partner in spreading G‑dliness. Just as every Jew contributed to building the Mishkan, so too should everyone support these modern sanctuaries—opening channels for blessings in all aspects of life.
