א) פורים שמח. הצעתי למוסדות שבחינוך שישתדלו שהנערים ונערות המחוייבים במצות וטוב אשר גם קטנים מהם יקיימו בעצמם משלוח מנות ומתנות לאביונים.

ב) תודה ובמענה למברקו - בהוספה לקיום המצות ונוסף לערך החינוכי הגדול, הכוונה - הפגנה כלפי מטה והדגשה כביכול כלפי מעלה, דאחדות עמנו המופרד, ושהאחדות בת קיימא רק בקיום דתנו השונות מכל עם. וגם - להמשיך הנוער, ובאמצעותם - אבותם, שילכו בדרכי מרדכי היהודי הכופר בכל העבודות זרות. בכבוד ובברכה. מנחם שניאורסאהן

אין צוזאמענהאנג מיט די פארשטייענדע טעג פון פורים הבע"ל, זיינען מיר באאויפטראגט געווארען פון כ"ק אדמו"ר שליט"א צו ציהען די אלגעמיינע אויפמערקזאמקייט צו דעם ליידער פארשפרייטער מיספארשטענדיניש בנוגע די מצות פון משלוח מנות און מתנות לאביונים. וועלכע הערשט צווישען אידישע קינדער און יוגענט. פילע פון זיי פארלאזן זיך אויף דער דעה אז מען קען יוצא זיין די דאזיגע מצוה דורך דעם וואס זייערע עלטערען זיינען זיי מקיים, און ליידער אבער טרעפט עז אז אויך פיל עלטערען זיינען עס ניט מקיים ווי עס דארף זיין.
דעריבער, מיט דעם געהעריגן כבוד, ווערן די רבנים, מחנכים און עלטערען געבעטען צו דערמאנען די קינדער וועלכע געפינען זיך אונטער זייער דערציהונג און השפעה דאס פאלגענדעס:
א) צוזאמען מיט דער מצוה צו הערען די מגילה פורים באנאכט און אויף מארגן אין דער פרי, ליגט א חיוב אויף יעדען אינגעל אין עלטער פון דרייצען יאר און העכער, און אויף יעדע מיידל פון צוועלף יאר און העכער מקיים צו זיין פערזענליך די מצות פון משלוח מנות און מתנות לאביונים. אין דעם טאג פון פורים.
באמערקונג: פון חינוך שטאנדפונקט איז ווינשענסווערט אז אויך אינגערע קינדער זאלן זיך איינגעוויינען מקיים צו זיין די דאזיגע מצות.
ב) די דאזיגע מצות קענען לייכט דורכגעפירט ווערען. פאר משלוח מנות פאדערט זיך בלויז צוויי מינים עסענווארג (צ. ב. אן עפעל און א קענדי, אדער א שטיקל קייק און סאדע, אדער זאפט); מתנות לאביונים קען מען יוצא זיין מיט צווי סענט, איין סענט צו יעדען פון צווי ארימעלייט.
אין דער זיכערע האפענונג אז דער ענין וועט געפינען דעם געהעריגען אפקלאנג לזכות את הרבים און
מיט א הארציגען וואונטש פאר א פרייליכען און גייסטיגרייכן פורים.

Below is copied the text of two telegrams which the Rebbe Shlita graciously sent to your honor: a) on Motzaei Shabbat; b) today.
a) Happy Purim. I suggested to educational institutions that they strive for boys and girls obligated in mitzvos—and it is good if even those younger—should themselves fulfill Mishloach Manos and Matanos LaEvyonim.

b) Thank you, and in response to your telegram—in addition to fulfilling the mitzvos and aside from their great educational value, the intention is—to demonstrate below and emphasize above, so to speak—the unity of our divided people, and that this unity can only endure through observing our religion which is unlike any other nation. Also—to draw in the youth, and through them—their parents—to follow in the ways of Mordechai HaYehudi who rejected all foreign worship.

To the esteemed rabbis, heads of yeshivot, educators, teachers, and parents—may G‑d be upon them—Shalom u'Vrachah!
In connection with the upcoming days of Purim (may they come upon us for good), we have been instructed by the Rebbe Shlita to draw general attention to the unfortunately widespread misunderstanding regarding the mitzvos of Mishloach Manos and Matanos LaEvyonim among Jewish children and youth. Many rely on the opinion that one can fulfill these mitzvos through their parents’ fulfillment; unfortunately, it is also found that many parents do not fulfill them properly either.
Therefore, with due respect, rabbis, educators, and parents are requested to remind children under their education and influence as follows:
a) Along with the mitzvah to hear Megillah on Purim night and again in the morning, every boy aged thirteen or older and every girl aged twelve or older is personally obligated to fulfill Mishloach Manos and Matanos LaEvyonim on Purim day. Note: From an educational standpoint it is desirable that even younger children get used to fulfilling these mitzvos as well.
b) These mitzvos can be easily performed. For Mishloach Manos only two types of food are required (e.g., an apple and a candy; or a piece of cake and soda; or juice). One fulfills Matanos LaEvyonim by giving two cents—one cent each—to two poor people.
With confident hope that this matter will find proper resonance for meriting the public—and with heartfelt wishes for a joyous and spiritually rich Purim.
