Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from 7 Adar.
It is known from the sayings of our Rebbeim that just as one must know their own shortcomings, so too must one know their own strengths. Especially since it is known that among the tactics of the yetzer is to cast a person into a feeling of discouragement or even less than that, and comes with the claim that since he is not succeeding, "what does it matter to me," etc. Even though he is skilled in his craft, nevertheless, the Holy One, blessed be He, created Torah as an antidote. Particularly in the teachings of Chabad Chassidus which explain his (the yetzer hara's) tactics—including this very tactic—that his intention is only to lower a person from his level.
And in every Jew, his second soul is truly a part of G‑d above; even at the time of sin it remains faithful to Him. Therefore, it is understood that in one moment and in one instant a person can overcome the tactics of the yetzer—especially those who have merited to study in Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim founded by our holy Rebbeim and dedicate their time to education in purity and bringing the hearts of Jews closer to our Father in Heaven.
But it is obvious that something must be done about this. And although all beginnings are difficult, over time things become easier and the promise "little by little I will drive them out" is fulfilled. He should completely remove from his mind the unjust calculation he wrote about in his letter and increase diligence and persistence in his work—as well as dedication as an educator and guide—and may he share good news regarding all this.
At an auspicious time he will be mentioned at the holy resting place of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal. Every weekday before morning prayers he should set aside a few coins for charity. Without vow.
With blessing.
In the name of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe shlita
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that recognizing one's strengths alongside one's weaknesses empowers us to overcome discouragement from the yetzer hara. Through Torah—especially Chassidus—and persistent effort in education and self-improvement, one can rise above spiritual challenges.
