מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מצום גדלי', יהפך בקרוב לששון ולשמחה, לאחרי הפסק הכי ארוך, ומובן שנבהלתי לתוכנו ביותר וביותר, ועוד יותר מקור הרוח בכתיבתו אודות העבר עליו, מאשר ע"ד המאורעות עצמן,
ואלא, כיון שאמרו חז"ל שאין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון, ויגעת ומצאת, בודאי שבידו ללכת בדרך המלך מלכו של עולם במלא מובן המלה, ואדרבה בנקל יותר להנמצא במסגרת צבאי משך זמן כשנתים כמו שכותב, ז.א. שבמשך הרבה חדשים הורגל בהנהגה דקבלת עול ולשמוע בקול מפקד בן אדם בו"ד כמותו, אף שלעתים קרובות בכמה פרטים, עולה הוא על המפקד, במדות או בשכל או גם בשניהם יחד, אלא שזהו קיום הצבא ושמירת המשטר דוקא ע"י קבלת עול, ואם בהנוגע לבו"ד הדברים אמורים, עאכו"כ להבדיל הבדלות אין קץ, למלך ממה"מ הקב"ה, ואין להאריך בדבר הפשוט,
ויהי רצון שימים אלו של קירוב המאור אל הניצוץ יאירו לפניו דרכו בחיים, את אשר ישנו בו בירושה באהבה מסותרת שבכאו"א מישראל, ועוד נתחזקה ע"י גזע צור מחצבתו וכו' וכו', ומכאן ולהבא יהיו חייו חיים אמיתיים מתאימים להוראות תורתנו תורת חיים ומצותי', עליהם נאמר וחי בהם.

I acknowledge receipt of your letter from the Fast of Gedaliah—may it soon be transformed to joy and happiness—after the longest break. Naturally, I was very alarmed by its content, even more so by the tone in which you wrote about what has happened to you than by the events themselves. However, since our Sages say there is nothing that stands in the way of willpower, and "you have toiled and you have found," surely you are able to walk on the path of the King, King of kings, the Holy One blessed be He, in every sense of the word. On the contrary—it is even easier for someone who has been in an army framework for about two years as you write; that is, for many months you have become accustomed to a conduct of accepting authority and listening to a human commander like yourself—even though often in many ways you surpass your commander in character or intellect or both together. Still, this is how an army functions and maintains order—specifically through accepting authority. If this applies regarding a human being, how much more so—infinitely more so—regarding the King of kings, Hakadosh Baruch Hu. There is no need to elaborate on something so obvious.
May it be G‑d's will that these days when the luminary draws close to the spark illuminate your path in life—the inheritance within you as a hidden love found in every Jew—and further strengthened by your lineage from a strong root and so on. From now on may your life be true life fitting with the teachings of our Torah of life and its mitzvot about which it is said: "and you shall live by them."
