Shalom u'Vrachah!

I was pleased to receive regards through the vavac"h iy"a nu"n one involved with tzt"z Moreinu HaRav... However, I was pained to learn during the conversation that apparently your honor does not at all guard his health and behaves contrary to the doctors' instructions in this matter. Surely it is unnecessary to elaborate on the attitude one must have toward doctors' instructions; this is brought in many places in Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim regarding Shabbat and Yom Kippur and similar cases. It is also brought in the laws of bodily and mental damages and their rulings. The central point is as our Sages say: a person has no authority over his body at all to cause it pain etc., because the body is the property of the Holy One Blessed be He—a wondrous expression which, upon a little contemplation, is truly astonishing. May it be His will that this teaching of our Sages—which is great in quality—will have its effect for vigilance also regarding the commandment 'uNishmartem Meod l'Nafshoteichem' (and you shall greatly guard your souls), and without doubt through this there will also be an increase in communal activism and matters of Torah and mitzvos in general. As is known from the saying of the Maggid of Mezritch—whose yahrzeit was a few days ago—'A small hole in the body is a big hole in the soul.'

Enclosed is what was recently published, and surely you will merit to share its content with many; the merit of the public depends on you.

Blessings for good news and for bright and radiant days of Chanukah.

P.S. Thank you very much for your attention in delivering the cloth via Mr.... Since he did not know details about this, and based on our Sages (Chullin 44b), I gave it over to those inside Tomchei Temimim; after all, public Shabbat meals are a communal mitzvah.

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that caring for one's health is a Torah obligation because our bodies belong to G‑d. By following medical advice and safeguarding our well-being, we enable ourselves to serve others more effectively and fulfill Torah and mitzvos with greater strength.
