... במ"ש אודות הנקודות העיקריות דתורת החסידות והשקפתה, הנה לימוד תורת החסידות הוא ע"ד לימוד כל חלק וחלק שבתורה, ולמה הדבר דומה, לכשקודם שיתחיל בלימוד גמרא לאחר לימוד המשנה, ישאל לנקודות העיקרים דהגמרא וכו', אשר מובן שאפשר להעלות על הנייר ענין זה הן בנוגע לגמרא והן בנוגע לתורת החסידות. אבל מעולם לא ראיתי גישה כזו בהנוגע ללימוד הגמרא או ראשונים וכו'. ולדעתי אין זה נוגע כלל וכלל בלימוד תורת החסידות, אף שמובן שכל אחד מחפש לו דרך קצרה, ובמילא שואל, אפשר שכשילמוד וישיג נקודות העיקריות ילמוד תורה זו על רגל אחת.
במדה חשובה ימצא את הנקודות העיקריות דתורת החסידות והשקפתה, בשער היחוד והאמונה (תניא חלק ב'), מצות האמנת אלקות שבספר דרך מצותיך בכמה פרקים בשרש מצות התפלה שם, ובקונטרס לימוד תורת החסידות.

Regarding what you wrote about the main points of the teachings of Chasidus and its outlook: learning the teachings of Chasidus is similar to learning every part of Torah. To what can this be compared? It is like if, before beginning to study Gemara after learning Mishnah, someone would ask for the main points of the Gemara, etc. It is understood that one could put such a thing on paper both regarding Gemara and regarding the teachings of Chasidus. But I have never seen such an approach when it comes to learning Gemara or Rishonim, etc.
In my opinion, this has no relevance at all to learning the teachings of Chasidus, even though it is understood that everyone seeks a shortcut and therefore asks—perhaps by learning and grasping the main points one could learn this Torah 'on one foot.' To a significant degree you will find the main points of the teachings of Chasidus and its outlook in Shaar HaYichud VeHaEmunah (Tanya part II), in the mitzvah of belief in G‑d as explained in several chapters in Shoresh Mitzvas HaTefillah there in Derech Mitzvosecha, and in Kuntres Limud Toras HaChasidus.
