במענה על מכתבו בו כותב אשר מוהל הוא, ושואל למנהגי חב"ד מיוחדים הקשורים בהכניסה לברית ובימים שלפניו ושלאחריו.
והנה לא שמעתי בזה הוראת דברים מיוחדים ובכלל נוהגים ע"פ הכתוב בסידור רבנו הזקן ועיין בשער הכולל שם, ונוהג הי' כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, שכשהוזמן לברית שכמובן הי' הסנדק, הרי בהתחלת הסעודה הי' נותן סכום לישיבה, והי' אומר שזהו א אויפגאב (התחלת תשלומין) שכר לימוד בעד רך הנמול לכשיגדל, וכיון דחובת אדם לומר בלשון רבו, הרי באותו הפעם שהייתי נוכח הי' זה בווארשא ונתן עשרים זלאטעס (זהובים) ואמר "דאס איז פאר תומכי תמימים א אדערויף אויף שכר לימוד".
מ"ש שזכה לטעום מעט מעץ החיים תורת החסידות, הרי בזה יעמיק בדבורו שכותב שזהו עץ החיים, ולכן בטח יעשה ככל יכולתו לקבוע שיעורים בלימודי דברי אלקים חיים אלו, וע"פ פסק רז"ל לא המדרש עיקר אלא המעשה הליכה בדרכי' והנהגותי', ובפרט שאומנתו להכניס בני ישראל בברית שענין הברית הוא למעלה מן השכל והבנה, עיין לקו"ת ריש פרשה נצבים ונעשה זה בגוף אדם קודם שהגיע לכלל הבנה וכמ"ש ביום השמיני ימול ואז הוא התחלת כניסת נפש הקדושה (שו"ע רבנו הזקן מהדו"ב סוף סי' ד'), הרי גם הנהגתו צריכה להיות על דרך זה, היינו לימוד פנימיות התורה רזי תורה שמצד עצמם הם למעלה מהשגה והבנה, ולכן תחלת הלימוד הוא בדרך קבלת עול למטה מהשגה והבנה, ועי"ז נתגלה גם הסתים של נפש הקדושה באדם, כי סתים דאורייתא כשבא בגלוי הרי מגלה זה גם כן הסתים שבישראל.

In response to your letter in which you write that you are a mohel and ask about special Chabad customs connected to entering the covenant and the days before and after it.
I have not heard of any special instructions in this regard; generally, the practice follows what is written in the Siddur of Rabbeinu HaZaken—see also Shaar HaKolel there. The custom of my father-in-law, the Previous Rebbe (of blessed memory), was that when he was invited to a bris—where he was naturally the sandek—at the beginning of the meal he would give a sum to the yeshivah and say this is an "aufgab" (the start of payment) for tuition for the circumcised child when he grows up. Since one must use their teacher's language, at the occasion I witnessed in Warsaw he gave twenty zlotys (gold coins) and said: "This is for Tomchei Temimim as an advance on tuition."
Regarding what you wrote about having merited to taste a bit from the Tree of Life—the Torah of Chassidus—you should deepen your statement that this is indeed the Tree of Life. Therefore, surely you will do all you can to set regular times for studying these words of Elokim Chayim. As our Sages ruled: not study but action is primary—walking in its ways and conduct. Especially since your profession is bringing Jewish children into the covenant—a matter that is above intellect and understanding; see Likkutei Torah at the beginning of Parshas Nitzavim—and this occurs in a person's body before reaching understanding, as it says: "On the eighth day he shall be circumcised," and then begins entry of the holy soul (see Shulchan Aruch HaRav Mahadura Basra end of Siman 4). So too should your conduct be: learning pnimiyus haTorah—the secrets of Torah—which themselves are above comprehension. Therefore, initial study should be with acceptance beyond understanding; through this, even what is hidden in one's holy soul is revealed—for when what is hidden in Torah comes into revelation, it also reveals what is hidden within Israel.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that while there are no unique Chabad customs for a bris beyond standard practice, giving an advance toward tuition at a bris reflects deep values. He encourages setting regular times for learning Chassidus with dedication beyond intellect.
