עס האט מיר זייער געפרייט צו ערהאלטען אייער בריף אין וועלכען איר שרייבט, אז מען האט פארבראכט דעם חג י"ט כסלו מיט א סיום אויף משניות, געזונגען דעם אלטען רבי'נס ניגון און מען האט גע'חזר'ט חסידות.
עס וואלט זייער גלייך געווען צו איינארדענען אזעלכע התועדות ו[ו]אס אפטער. און בפרט שבת מברכים החדש, און יומי דפגרא, ווארום אז חסידישע אידען קלייבען זיך צוזאמען, רעט מען דאך געוויס איבער א תורה ווארט, א חסידישן תורה ווארט און אויך סיפורי צדיקים יסודי עולם, וואס מאמרי רז"ל און ספורי צדיקים פרישען אפ דעם נפש האלקית, און געבען אים כח אויף צו פארטזעצען די עבודה וועלכע איז ארויפגעלייגט געווארען אויף אים, צו דערלייכטען זיין גוף ונפש הבהמית וחלקו בעולם וועלכע איז שייך צו דעם אידען.
און אזוי ווי די מצוה פון חנוכה איז דאך צו אנצינדען ליכט, משתחשך, און פון נאכט צו נאכט מוסיף זיין אור בנרות, איז דאס א מוסר השכל אויף דעם כללות החשך של הגלות, אז יעדער אידען איז געגעבען געווארען דער כח אויף צו באלייכטען דעם חשך הגלות און פון מאל צו מאל מוסיף זיין אור, וכמרז"ל מעלין בקדש.
איך בעט אייך איבערגעבען מיין גרוס צו די אלע וועלכע האבען זיך באטייליגט אין דעם י"ט כסלו פארבריינגען. און אלעס מיטבא-טייליגונג אין דער נאהענסטער התועדות, לייג איך דא סימבאליש $5 וועלכע זאל באנוצט ווערען אויף די זאכען וועלכע העלפען צו דער התועדות, ווי משקה פארבייסען וכו'.

It gave me great pleasure to receive your letter in which you write that you celebrated the festival of Yud Tes Kislev with a siyum on Mishnayos, sang the Alter Rebbe's niggun, and reviewed chassidus.
It would be very appropriate to arrange such gatherings more often. Especially on Shabbos Mevorchim and special days (yomei d’pagrah), for when chassidic Jews gather together they certainly discuss a Torah thought—a chassidic Torah thought—and also stories of tzaddikim who are the foundation of the world. The words of our Sages and stories of tzaddikim refresh the G‑dly soul and give it strength to continue its service: to illuminate one's body, animal soul, and portion in the world that pertains to this Jew.
Just as the mitzvah of Chanukah is to kindle lights after dark and each night increase light in the candles, this is a lesson for the general darkness of exile: every Jew has been given the power to illuminate the darkness of exile and from time to time increase light—as our Sages say: "ma'alin bakodesh" (we ascend in holiness).
I ask you to convey my regards to all those who participated in the Yud Tes Kislev farbrengen. And as participation in future gatherings, I am symbolically enclosing $5 to be used for things that help these gatherings—such as mashke (spirits), refreshments, etc.

Summary
The Rebbe teaches that regular chassidic gatherings—especially on special days—strengthen Jewish souls through Torah study and stories of tzaddikim. Like Chanukah lights increasing each night, every Jew can add light even amidst exile's darkness.
