בנועם קבלתי מכתבו מי"ג אלול עם הפ"נ, אשר קראתיו ביום הבהיר ח"י אלול על הציון של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע.
ומה שכותב במכתבו שמצטער הוא בענין בריאותו, אין לו ממה להצטער כלל וכלל, ובטח קרא בהזכרונות בארוכה ע"ד עבודת כ"ק אביו של אדמו"ר הזקן בגן ובשדה, ואין אתנו יודע בסוד הבירורים ובאיך ובאיזה ענין ואופן עלינו להשלים את הכוונה העליונה, ועל אבינו שבשמים נשען אשר ינחנו בדרך הטובה לטוב לנו בטוב הנראה ונגלה בגשמיות וברוחניות.
נהניתי לקרות במכתבו מהשתדלותו בהחזקת היהדות של ... וגם את שמותיהם הזכרתי על הציון של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, ואקוה אשר תקל עליו עתה ההשתדלות עמהם; וכהבטחת רז"ל (תמורה ט"ו ע"א) עשיר ורש נפגשו מאיר עיני שניהם כו' הרי כיון שמשפיע עליהם וכיו"ב ביהדות ותורה ומצות, הנה יאיר גם עיניו ה' להצליח לו בלימוד הנגלה והחסידות ובשאר עניניו.
ולקראת השנה החדשה הבאה עלינו ועל כל ישראל לטובה ולברכה, הנני בזה להביע ברכתי לו, ברכת כתיבה וחתימה טובה לשנה טובה ומתוקה בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד.
בברכת הצלחה בלימודיו ובשאר עניניו.

I pleasantly received your letter from the 13th of Elul with the pan (pidyon nefesh), which I read on the bright day of Chai Elul at the resting place of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal.
Regarding what you wrote in your letter about being troubled concerning your health—there is absolutely no reason to be troubled at all. Surely you have read at length in the memoirs about the service of the honored father of the Alter Rebbe in the garden and field. None of us knows the secret of birurim (refinements) or how and in what manner we are to fulfill the supernal intent. We rely on our Father in Heaven that He will guide us on a good path for our benefit—both revealed and apparent good—in material and spiritual matters.
I was pleased to read in your letter about your efforts to strengthen Yiddishkeit among ... I also mentioned their names at the resting place of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe. I hope that now your efforts with them will become easier; and as our Sages say (Temurah 15a): "The rich and poor meet together; G‑d enlightens both their eyes," meaning that since you influence them and others like them regarding Judaism, Torah, and mitzvos, G‑d will also enlighten your eyes to succeed in your study of Nigleh (revealed Torah), Chassidus, and all other matters.
As we approach the new year coming upon us and all Israel for good and blessing, I hereby express my blessing to you: may you be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year both materially and spiritually together.
