D Elul.

Hayom Yom discusses the order of the blessings on the Torah: One touches their tallit at the beginning of the reading and at its end, kisses the tallit where it touched the Sefer Torah, turns slightly to the right, and recites the blessing. Then one opens the Sefer Torah and reads.

Regarding human qualities, there are four titles: Adam—representing intellectual and cognitive excellence; Ish—representing emotional and heart-based qualities; Enosh—signifying weakness in either intellect or emotions or both; Gever—one who overcomes obstacles to attain one of these qualities, whether in intellect or emotion. Thus, a Gever works with an Enosh to elevate him to the level of Ish or Adam. Since it is possible to transform an Enosh into an Ish or Adam, it follows that within every Enosh exist all those qualities found in Ish and Adam as well.

Summary

Hayom Yom teaches both practical customs for Rosh Chodesh Torah reading and offers insight into four levels of human character, emphasizing that every person contains potential for higher spiritual and emotional refinement.
