Learning the Yeshiva's Tractate and Guidelines for Business Participation

The Rebbe writes that a student in yeshiva should dedicate part of his study time to the tractate learned in his yeshiva. Regarding involvement in a business venture, if the organizers are trustworthy and some invest their own money, participation is permitted.

(1) כיון שלומד (ששייך) לישיבה – עליו ללמוד המסכת דהישיבה – עכ"פ חלק מזמן לימודיו.

(2) בנוגע להשתתפותו בעסק ההמצאה: באם המתעסקים בזה והמציעים – ברי סמכא (מבינים במסחר כזה, אחדים מהם עכ"פ – משתתפים גם בממונם, אינם דרייער וכיו"ב) יכול גם הוא להשתתף. – אבל גודל ההפלאה ... [חסר הסיום]

(1) Since you are learning (and belong) to a yeshiva, you must study the tractate assigned by the yeshiva—at least for part of your study time.

(2) Regarding your participation in the invention business: If those involved and making the proposal are reliable authorities (understand this type of business, and some of them—at least—are also investing their own money, and they are not 'dreyer' [deceivers], etc.), then you may also participate.
