Shalom u'Vrachah!

As I have received reports regarding the management of nursing homes—the main profit comes from reducing and withholding medical care that the residents need, limiting their food, heating the buildings less, and similar matters. I have heard this from several sources.

Since then, I do not advise anyone who asks me to enter this business, because apparently the daily challenges are overwhelming (and some try to justify it with the halachic exemption of "there is no agent for a transgression," or that in practice it is carried out by someone else, etc.).

Summary

The Rebbe warns against participating in businesses where profit comes at the expense of proper care for others, emphasizing that ethical concerns outweigh technical justifications.
