ובעמדנו ערב שבת קודש מברכים אלו"ל, חודש הרחמים והסליחות, ידוע ביאור כ"ק רבנו הזקן בעל התניא והשלחן ערוך בענין סגולת חודש זה על פי משל למלך שקודם בואו לעיר יוצאין אנשי העיר לקראתו ומקבלין פניו בשדה ואז רשאין כל מי שרוצה להקביל פניו והוא מקבל את כולם בסבר פנים יפות ומראה פנים שוחקות לכולם וכו' (לקוטי תורה, פ' ראה, ע' לב).
ויהי רצון שכאו"א מאתנו ינצל חודש זה במילואו, ותולה ארץ על בלימה ייטיב לכת"ר ולכל אשר לו הכתיבה והחתימה לשנה טובה מתוקה ונעימה.

Rabbi Eliyahu, known as Dr. Toaff, Chief Rabbi—Shalom u'Vrachah! It pleased me to receive your letter through Harav HaGaon and Harav HaChassid vavac"h iy"a nu"n who is involved with tzt"z etc., Rabbi Gershon Mendel Sheyichyeh Gerlik, and also for your gift—the book Shu"t Zchut Avot.
As we stand on the eve of Shabbat Kodesh Mevarchim Elul, the month of mercy and forgiveness, it is well known—the explanation from our master the Alter Rebbe, author of Tanya and Shulchan Aruch—regarding the unique quality of this month: by way of a parable to a king who, before entering his city, its people go out to greet him and receive him in the field; then anyone who wishes may approach him, and he receives everyone with a pleasant countenance and shows a smiling face to all (Likkutei Torah, Parshat Re'eh p. 32).
May it be G‑d's will that each one of us utilize this month to its fullest; "He suspends the earth upon nothingness" will bestow goodness upon you and all that is yours—a good, sweet, and pleasant inscription and sealing for a new year.
