To spice things up with stories from the lives of chassidim or the leaders, to prove (from the holy conduct of that time) that the opposition from the outset was only for reasons they explicitly stated—concerns, etc.—and since then everyone agrees there is no place for them. Furthermore, the teachings of Chassidus add and do not diminish, G‑d forbid (as is clearly evident), and therefore, in general, two hundred includes one hundred.

This was written on the margin of the letter from 26 Tammuz 5723.

To spice: In his letter: There are among the instructors those who were educated in the spirit of true opponents, and they tell me they oppose learning Chassidus... and I ask what means to take.

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that initial opposition to Chassidus was based on specific concerns which no longer apply. Sharing stories of chassidim and leaders can help demonstrate how Chassidus only adds value, encouraging even those hesitant to embrace its study.
