Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter in which you ask why even a fleeting thought about worldly matters often manifests itself—such that a person dreams about the musings of his heart—whereas this is not the case with thoughts of Torah, mitzvos, and fear of Heaven, even when one studies deeply. The explanation for this can also be understood from what is explained in Sefer Tanya Kadisha chapter 29 (37a) and referenced in the holy Zohar; see there.
2) What is the reason that your friends easily ascend higher and higher in Torah and fear of Heaven, whereas this does not seem to happen for you? This is connected to what is written in Tanya chapter 41 regarding Torah study: before learning and after it, at all times one must prepare oneself; see there. In all such matters we have been assured: "When a person sanctifies himself a little below, he is sanctified greatly from above," and certainly if you make an effort in this matter you will succeed, for so our Sages have assured us.
It is well known that it is not the way to constantly seek out difficulties and questions—only occasionally—but the main thing is to learn diligently and consistently with ease our holy Torah of life, both Nigleh (revealed) and Chassidus. See details on this in Hilchos Talmud Torah by our master the Alter Rebbe.
Certainly you are keeping up with the chain of daily study sessions of Chumash, Tehillim, and Tanya as is customary.
With blessing for good news in all the above. We are assured: Yoma 39a.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that while mundane thoughts may easily influence dreams, spiritual growth comes through consistent Torah study and preparation. Sincere effort draws abundant Divine assistance; focus on diligent learning rather than constant questioning.
