Shalom u'Vrachah!

In response to your letter which arrived after some delay, in which you write about the situation in your family, especially regarding health matters, etc., and you ask my opinion on this.

It is generally surprising what you write—that a doctor supposedly said there is no chance for complete recovery—when it is clear that several known cases have indeed fully recovered. Among them are even those whom I have personally seen; it has been more than ten years that they are well. Not only that, but in the meantime they married (for the person in question whom I have known all this time was single and then married and had children) and earn a steady livelihood.

Regarding a specific event it is impossible to know with certainty and clarity, but simply put, a doctor's statement in such terms is very strange. At most—and generally—a person can say he does not guarantee or take responsibility for the future; nothing more than that.

In general, regarding the matter as you describe it—especially since there are children at an educational age—it is clear that every effort must be made to ensure the home continues to exist. Most importantly, one must maintain constant contact with experts in this field: to reach out to them and ask them regularly about new treatments and medicines that frequently arise—whether any of them are suitable for this case as well.

The Holy One, blessed be He, Who watches over each individual with Divine Providence—and He is also "the Healer of all flesh Who works wonders"—may He guide you and each of those mentioned in your letter toward true goodness: goodness that is visibly good both Above and below. May there be an immediate essential improvement in this matter; after all, we are now in the month of Adar—an auspicious time for the Jewish people in all their affairs.

Certainly you do not suffice with the study sessions you mention but add to them from time to time; surely you also participate in public Torah classes.

Regarding your question about halachic permission etc.—it is understood that for this one must turn to a qualified local rabbi who knows all the details.

With blessing for good news.
