לאחרי הפסק נתקבל מכתבו מכ"ז שבט, ובהנוגע לשאלותיו:
א) בהנוגע להשתתף בארגוני תנועה מסוימת אשר בשעתה אסרה הרבנות לשתף פעולה עמהם, איך להתיחס להאמור.
הנה בכלל - כיון שרב מרא דאתרא פוסק בכח הסמיכות, ז. א. דעת תורה, מובן שהבא למקום האמור, צריך לשמור פסק האמור (מלבד באם ישנן כמה קהלות ולכל אחת רב במיוחד ואין בית דין שמקשרם ומאחדם). אלא שכמובן שברשותו, ואולי גם מחובתו - לדבר עם הרבנים בשאלה הנ"ל, ולברר אצלם אם פס"ד האמור הוא גם בנוגע לבקשה מסוג זה שהופנית אליו או שזהו שונה.
ב) לשאלתו האם ירשום עצמו לבחינה ביוניברסיטה.
כנראה ממכתבו אין השאלה האם ילמוד באוניברסיטה, כי נעשה זה בלא"ה, כי אם בהנוגע לבחינות - בכל אופן בכגון דא יש לבחון (לשער) תגובת הצבור על האמור, אם יתפרש זה כנתינת הכשר לענין בלתי רצוי, ובזה הרי יש לבחון המצב על אתר דוקא.
הדגשתי האמורה לעיל שאינו שואל בהנוגע ללימוד עצמו - מובנת ע"פ היחס המפורסם בהנוגע ללימודי חול, וק"ל.
ג) בהנוגע להצעה לחתוך את כל בשר החניכיים כו', ר"ל.
בכלל הצעה מוזרה היא, ובפרט שהחיתוך הוא על מנת שיקום בשר חדש וכו', ז. א.
ענין שאי אפשר להיות בטוח (במאה אחוז?) שכן יהי' במילואו. בכל זה כיון שכותב שקבל הצעת מומחה, יש לפנות למומחה אחר ולדעת דעתו בזה, ובמקום ספק ובכלל - הרי שב ואל תעשה עדיף.
ינעם לי להתבשר טוב מהכינוס אודותו כותב ובפרטיות, וכבר הודיעו לנו חז"ל מהו טוב האמיתי, טוב לשמים טוב לבריות וטוב העושה פירות, והרי דברים היוצאים מן הלב והובטחנו שנכנסים ללב השומע.

After a pause, your letter from the 27th of Shevat was received, and regarding your questions:
a) Regarding participating in certain movement organizations which the rabbinate at one time forbade cooperation with—how should one relate to this? In general—since the local rabbi (rav mara d’asra) rules by virtue of his authority, i.e., daas Torah, it is understood that one who comes to such a place must follow that ruling (unless there are several communities each with their own rabbi and no beis din uniting them). However, it is certainly within his right—and perhaps even his duty—to speak with the rabbis about this matter and clarify whether their ruling also applies to this specific request presented to him or if it is different.
b) Regarding your question whether to register for an exam at the university. It seems from your letter that the question is not whether you will study at the university (as this is happening anyway), but rather about the exams—in any case in such matters one must consider (estimate) how the public will react to this; if it will be interpreted as giving approval to something undesirable. This situation must be assessed specifically on site. The emphasis above that you are not asking about the studies themselves is understood in light of the well-known attitude toward secular studies, and this suffices.
c) Regarding the suggestion to cut all of the gum tissue etc.—this is generally a strange proposal, especially since the cutting is intended so that new tissue will grow etc., i.e., something that cannot be guaranteed (100%?) will happen fully. Nevertheless, since you write that you received this suggestion from an expert, you should consult another expert and hear his opinion on this matter; and where there is doubt—and in general—refraining from action is preferable.
I would be pleased to hear good news from the gathering you wrote about in detail. Our Sages have already told us what true good is: good for Heaven, good for people, and good that produces fruit. These are words that come from the heart and we have been assured they enter the heart of those who hear them.

P.S. Surely you participated in the farbrengen on Yud Shevat—the yahrzeit of my father-in-law, the Rebbe—tenth of Shevat—and took inspiration from it for the entire year; this is indeed the purpose of a chassidic gathering.
