Shalom u'Vrachah!
Many thanks for the book "Struggles of a Generation" as well as your previous publications. I hope that in the future you will continue this practice of sending your works to our library, and I express my gratitude in advance.
Certainly, those who were part of American Jewry in earlier times—before memories fade—are obligated to preserve its history in all its details, especially its struggle for true existence by maintaining its unique character. Therefore, to you and all those who assist you in such matters, it is fitting to say "Yasher Koach," for this is a timely matter—especially in our era when a single year now is like an entire epoch full of upheavals.
In these days before our Festival of Freedom, may it be G‑d's will that every segment of our people be redeemed from their own exile: those experiencing physical exile should be freed from their physical constraints, and those in spiritual exile should emerge from their spiritual limitations—from bondage to true freedom. As our Sages said: "Charut al haLuchot" (engraved on the tablets) means "cheirut al haLuchot" (freedom on the tablets), for true freedom for us is bound up with the Tablets of the Covenant—G‑d's writing—which unites two extremes: with Him was I nurtured (emun), the infinite delight of the Holy One Blessed be He; yet at the same time it is a Torah of life—a guide for daily living in our physical and material world.
This is Israel's mission throughout all generations and places, as hinted at in our father Yaakov's dream: "A ladder set on the earth with its top reaching heaven," uniting the lowest with the highest so that "behold, Hashem stands over him," as a seal and conclusion to this matter.
With honor and wishes for a kosher and joyous festival.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that preserving Jewish memory and identity is vital, especially through documenting struggles and connecting them to Torah. True freedom comes from linking spiritual purpose with daily life—a mission entrusted to every Jew in every generation.
