... ולכתבו בצער ע"ד יחס פלוני ופלוני לענינים דתיים, אף שצריך הי' להיות בהיפך וכו', - הנה כנראה שזהו אחד מהענינים שלא חל בהם שינוי משנים שעברו וגם מהדור שלפני דורנו ושלפניו, וכידוע מסיפורי העסקנים בימים ההם, ואף שמובן שזוהי רק חצי נחמה ואפשר עוד פחות מזה, הנה מאידך גיסא כמו שסו"ס דידן נצח אז בעבר, בודאי שכן יהי' גם עתה, אף שחבל שצריך לנצל כחות בהנ"ל (מלחמה בהרע) בה בשעה שהיו יכולים בכחות אלו ובמרץ זה לפעול בהקו דועשה טוב...

...And regarding your writing with distress about the attitude of certain individuals toward religious matters, even though it should have been the opposite, etc.—it appears that this is one of those issues that has not changed from previous years and even from the generation before ours and the one before that. As is known from stories of activists in those days, and although it is understood that this is only half a consolation or perhaps even less than that, on the other hand, just as ultimately "didan natzach" (our side was victorious) then in the past, surely so it will be now as well. Although it is unfortunate that one must expend energy on this (fighting evil) at a time when these same energies and enthusiasm could have been used to advance positive initiatives...
