Shalom u'Vrachah!
I am responding to your letter from Monday, the 12th of Tammuz, the day of liberation of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal nbg"m zya"a, leader of Israel. In it you confirm receipt of my letter and write more details regarding your son and family sheyichyu. At an auspicious time you will be mentioned at the holy resting place of my revered father-in-law in accordance with your request.
As I wrote that to rectify the past one can do so by influencing one's grandchildren sheyichyu, it is understood that this is among the main things in this matter. However, one should not suffice with this; according to the directive of 'VeAhavta L'Rei'acha Kamocha' (Love your fellow as yourself), one must help all those involved in this area as much as possible and generally see to it that the idea of family purity penetrates broader circles.
It is well known the power of rectification and teshuvah—not only does it remove punishment G‑d forbid but it also brings additional success—as is known from our Rebbes' saying that baalei teshuvah are greater than completely righteous individuals.
I hope you keep the takanah (custom) of saying the monthly Tehillim portion—as Tehillim is divided among the days of the month—every day after davening in the morning, as well as reciting the chapter of Tehillim according to your age (i.e., from one's bar mitzvah day one begins to say every day after davening chapter fourteen, and each subsequent year adds the next chapter).
Blessings for good news in all the above matters and from your participation in the farbrengen of 12 Tammuz which surely took place in your city. May it be G‑d's will that this be a beginning for good tidings.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that influencing one's descendants spiritually and spreading family purity are vital acts. Through teshuvah and positive action, not only are past shortcomings repaired but new blessings are drawn down. Daily Tehillim strengthens these efforts.
