במענה למכתבו מעש"ק ובו כותב אשר מלמד הוא לכתת ילדים בדעטראיט, וזה מזמן שדורשים ומדברים עמו שיעתיק מושבו לנויארק אשר שם בנקל יותר כל עניני יהדות וכו' ושואל דעתי בזה.
ולדעתי תמוה אפילו נתינת מקום לספק בזה, שהרי חינוך בני ישראל על טהרת הקדש, מלאכת ה' היא, ואין לך דבר גדול יותר מזה ובפרט בתקופתנו דור יתום, ואשרי חלקו של כאו"א שזכה לעשות בזה, ואדרבה צריך להוסיף חילים ולהשפיע גם על אחרים שהם יעשו ככה כמוהו, ופשיטא בערי השדה, אשר שם הוא בגדר מצוה שאי אפשר לעשותה ע"י אחרים, ודוקא מטעם האמור (הלא בנויארק כל עניני יהדות בקל יותר), אשר זכותו של כל אחד מהמתעסקים בזה גדול פי כמה, והרי הבטיחו רז"ל שמדתו של הקב"ה מדה כנגד מדה אלא שכמה פעמים ככה, וזה העוסק בחינוך ילדי בני ישראל שכל אחד מהם עליו נאמר בנים אתם לה' אלקיכם, בודאי שישלם לו השי"ת פי כמה בהצלחת בניו ובנותיו שי' הוא להיות לו מהם רוב נחת אמיתי הוא נחת יהודי מסורתי.
והרי ידועה הנהגת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע נשיא ישראל, אשר בחר בכמה בחורים ואברכים מבחירי תלמידיו ושלחם דוקא לערי השדה, ובמשך השנים שעברו, הרי כבר ראו פירות ופירי פירות, והרי זה גם הוראה ולימוד בשביל כל אחד מאתנו כמובן.
תקותי ששורותי אלה אף כי מעט בכמות תספיקנה להאיר הענין אף שבלא"ה מובן הוא, ולא באתי אלא להוסיף התלהבות במילוי תפקידו האמור ויהי רצון שיעשה זה מתוך הרחבת הדעת אמיתית ובריאות הנכונה.

In response to your letter from Erev Shabbat Kodesh in which you write that you are teaching a class of children in Detroit, and for some time people have been urging and speaking with you to move your residence to New York where all matters of Judaism are easier, etc., and you ask my opinion on this.
In my opinion, it is surprising even to entertain any doubt about this, for educating the children of Israel in purity and holiness is G‑d's work, and there is nothing greater than this—especially in our generation, an orphaned generation. Fortunate is the portion of each individual who merits to be involved in this. On the contrary, one should increase their efforts and also influence others to do likewise. This is especially true in smaller cities where such work is a mitzvah that cannot be done by others. Precisely because (as you wrote) all matters of Judaism are easier in New York, the merit of those engaged in this work elsewhere is many times greater. Our Sages have taught that the measure with which G‑d repays is measure for measure—only many times over. One who engages in the education of Jewish children—about whom it is said 'Banim Atem LaHashem Elokeichem' ("You are children to the L‑rd your G‑d")—will certainly be rewarded by Hashem many times over with success regarding his own sons and daughters, granting him much true nachas—authentic Jewish satisfaction—from them.
It is well known that my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal nasi Yisrael, chose several young men and Avrechim from among his finest students and specifically sent them to small towns. Over the years, fruits and fruits of fruits have already been seen from this effort. This serves as a lesson and instruction for each one of us.
I hope that these few lines will suffice to illuminate the matter—even though it is self-evident—and my intent is only to add enthusiasm in fulfilling your aforementioned mission. May it be G‑d's will that you do so with true expansiveness of mind and good health.

Summary
