במענה למכתבו משילהי תשרי, בו כותב אשר רוצה הוא להכנס ללמוד בישיבה, ובישיבת חב"ד (בהיות לפני זמן למד בישיבת חב"ד) בלוד, אלא שגילו כעת הוא כ"ב שנה.
ונכונה סברתו למאד מאד, כי הרי השנים בגילו הם שנות ההכנה והיסוד למשך כל ימי חיי האדם, ובאיש הישראלי הרי אָשרו לא רק הרוחני אלא גם הגשמי תלוי ומיוסד בהתורה והמצוה ובהפנימיות שלהם אשר לזה מתקרבים ובמשך הזמן גם מכירים ומרגישים על ידי לימוד תורת החסידות והליכה בהדרכותי', שמזה מובן שככל ענין של הכנה הרי זהו ריוח בענין וריוח חשוב במאד, ולא ח"ו זמן שלא ניצלו אותו (כדבעי או עכ"פ במילואו), וכמו שמסיים במכתבו, אין דבר העומד בפני הרצון, כשילמוד במסירה ונתינה בודאי שיצליח בזה וגם יעזור לזה במשך כל ימי חייו בענינים הרוחנים ובענינים הגשמים.

In response to your letter from the end of Tishrei, in which you write that you wish to enter yeshiva—and specifically the Chabad yeshiva (having previously studied in a Chabad yeshiva) in Lod—though your current age is twenty-two.
Your reasoning is very, very correct, for these years at your age are the years of preparation and foundation for the rest of a person's life. For a Jewish person, both his spiritual and even his material happiness depend on and are founded in Torah and mitzvah observance and their inner dimension. This is approached—and over time recognized and felt—through the study of Chassidus and following its guidance. From this it is understood that like any matter of preparation, this is a gain in the matter itself—a very significant gain—and not G‑d forbid time that was not properly utilized (as it should be or at least fully). As you conclude in your letter: "Nothing stands in the way of will." If you study with devotion and dedication, you will certainly succeed in this, and it will also help you throughout your life both spiritually and materially.
