Shalom u'Vrachah!
I acknowledge receipt of your letter in which you write about the health condition of Mr... and I was pleased to read your letter and to sense from your style of writing that you approach this with warmth and heartfelt care. Although every doctor is expected to have this, since unfortunately there are those who have nothing more than an ordinary approach, even among those who do have a warm and heartfelt manner, there are many different levels. When one sees an added measure of this, it strengthens the hope that later on there will be more and more, and through this it will also affect the patient’s outcome.
Regarding the matter itself, you surely know that in the meantime there have been changes in the patient’s condition, about which I was informed, and you were surely also given the content of my response—which agreed with your suggestion—that he should follow what the doctors say.
I await further updates, and may Hashem Yisbarach, Who heals all flesh and does wonders, help that there should be good news.
It is certainly unnecessary to point out that spirituality and physicality are interconnected; even medical science recognizes that bodily health is tied to the health of the soul—not only in a simple sense but also with regard to the nefesh Elokit (G‑dly soul). Therefore I hope that when healing patients you pay attention to their state in this aspect as well, striving to heal also their soul—the nefesh Elokit—and not just their body or animal soul. And even if some patients do not feel a need for this or even oppose it, this itself is clear proof that they need an even greater measure of healing in this area. May it be G‑d’s will that you succeed in this as well.
With honor and blessing.
P.S. You surely know that I lived for several years in France and read French; therefore you may write me in whichever language is more convenient for you.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that true healing requires caring for both body and soul—the physical condition is deeply linked with spiritual well-being. Even when patients resist spiritual care, it often signals a greater need for it; holistic attention brings deeper results.
