Refuah Sheleimah, Daily Tehillim, and Torah as Engraving

ב"ה, י"ד תמוז, תשי"א ברוקלין.
The Rebbe writes to encourage daily recitation of Tehillim and study of Chumash with Rashi, emphasizing their power to draw blessings. He explains that Torah and mitzvos should be internalized like engraving, not just written externally, bringing unity between Jew and Torah.

Shalom u'Vrachah!

I was pleased to hear from Mr. ... regarding you and about your good work for matters of Yiddishkeit, and Mr. ... also writes to me that you now need a refuah; when I was last Monday, the 12th of Tammuz, at the resting place of my father-in-law the holy Rebbe zatzal nbg"m zya"a, I mentioned you for a refuah, and I hope that you will be able to inform me good news that you are already feeling better, and I will be grateful for this good news.

I want to arouse you regarding the takanah of my father-in-law the holy Rebbe zatzal nbg"m zya"a: to say every day after davening in the morning a yom Tehillim (as Tehillim is divided into days of the month), so that over the course of a month one should at least once have said the entire Tehillim. And also to learn every day a parsha of Chumash with Rashi's commentary. I hope that bli neder you will see to fulfill—saying Tehillim and learning Chumash with Rashi's commentary—from now on; both these practices draw down blessing and success in a Jew's life.

In last week's parsha which was read on Shabbos, the first verse is "Zot Chukat HaTorah" (This is the statute of the Torah). In Chassidus it is explained that the word "chukat" has another meaning from the root "chakikah" (engraving), which hints that Jews must learn Torah and fulfill mitzvos in a manner of engraving—not like writing where the ink is separate from what it is written on and only later are they joined together; rather, Torah study and mitzvah observance should be like engraving letters into stone—the letters are from the very same stone itself, not something added from outside. So too in fulfilling mitzvos and learning Torah—it should be like engraving: he and the Torah and mitzvos are one thing. Then the Torah says: "Im Bechukotai—if you walk in My statutes," from "chakikah," then "v'natati gishmeichem b'itam v'natnah haaretz yevulah..." (I will give your rains in their time and the land will yield its produce...).

With blessings for a speedy recovery.

Summary

The Rebbe encourages daily Tehillim and Chumash with Rashi as channels for blessing. He teaches that Torah and mitzvos should become part of one's essence—like engraved letters—so Jew, Torah, and mitzvos are truly united.
