קוה קויתי אשר הבחירות באה"ק ת"ו לא תתקיימנה כעת או לכל הפחות יודחו למשך זמן, כי מכמה טעמים אין הזמן גרמא לכך, ועל כל פנים אשר תהי' אחדות בתוך היהדות החרדית, כדי להקים חזית מאוחדת לבחירות.
ומה נבהלתי בקבלתי הידיעות מהפרת החזית הדתית.
בודאי למותר להאריך לפניהם אשר [בשאלה] כמו שאלה הנ"ל, הרי על כל מפלגה לוותר על רווחים מפלגתיים המנגדים לטובת הכלל, ואשר לענינים הנוגעים ליהדות החרדית בכללותה, דין קדימה על כל ריוח גשמי אפילו אם ריוח זה בטוח הוא, ואין צריך לומר אם הריוח מדומה ומוטל בספק, ובפרט אשר יכול הוא להיות גם קרוב להפסד.
מטעמים אלו, ונשען על מכתבם אלי מי"ב לחדש אדר שני, אחשוב אשר האריכות בכהנ"ל למותר, ובטח יתאמצו בכל יכולתם, שהחזית הדתית תתקיים, דבר אשר באמת למוכרח הוא לא רק לטובת הכלל, אלא גם לכל אחת מהמפלגות.

המברק והמכתב של כ"ק היו נושא אצלנו לדיון, והננו שמחים להודיע לכ"ק כי מצאנו בדבריו חזוק ועדוד רב לעמדתנו. כל היודעים ומכירים את התהומות שבין אדם לחברו בארץ הזו - והמחיצות המבדילים, אינו יכול שלא להיבהל מפני זוועת הבחירות. וכן אין אצלנו ולא היה לעולם שום כוונה או רצון להופיע בבחירות עם רשימה נפרדת, למרות שאנו היינו מלאים היסוסים על צדדי המגרעות שישנם בהקמת "חזית דתית". ההיסוסים הללו שאין כאן המקום לפורטם עוד גברו במשך השנתיים ומחצה של קיום החזית והשתתפותו בממשלה. אבל אחרי שכבר נוצר החזית הדתית, איום הוא הפירוד עד כדי, שדי בפחד ממנו כדי להכריע לצד ההופעה האחידה.
בבחירות הראשונות הבענו עמדה זו במפורש, אלא שההופעה האחידה הזו נכשלה בגלל עמדתם הנוקשה של אנשים שמעמידים ענינים מפוקפקים מעל לאינטרסיים צבוריים. אנו נאצלנו אז לעשות מעשה שלא כרוחנו, ואף היום קיימת אפשרות מלאה להופעה אחידה באם לא יכשילוה הללו שהיו אחראים לכשלון הראשון.
וה' הטוב יפרוש את סכת שלומו עלינו ועכ"י ועל ירושלים.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
I have hoped greatly that the elections in Eretz HaKodesh (the Holy Land) will not take place now or at least will be postponed for some time, because for several reasons the time is not appropriate for them. In any case, there should be unity within the charedi Jewish community to establish a united front for the elections. I was very alarmed upon receiving news of the dissolution of the religious front.
It is certainly unnecessary to elaborate before you that in a matter such as this, every party must forego partisan gains that are contrary to the general good. Regarding matters affecting charedi Judaism as a whole, they take precedence over any material gain—even if such gain is certain—and all the more so if it is only imagined or doubtful, especially since it could even lead to loss.
For these reasons, and based on your letter to me from 12 Adar II, I think it unnecessary to elaborate further on these points. Surely you will do all in your power so that the religious front will be maintained—something which is truly essential not only for the general good but also for each of the parties individually.

The telegram and letter from your honor were discussed among us, and we are pleased to inform you that we found much encouragement and support in your words for our position. Anyone who knows and recognizes the depths between people in this land—and the barriers that separate—cannot help but be alarmed by the dread of elections.
We have never had nor do we have any intention or desire to appear in elections with a separate list, even though we were full of misgivings about certain disadvantages present in establishing a "religious front." These misgivings—which there is no place here to detail—have only increased during these two and a half years of maintaining the front and participating in government. But now that the religious front has already been formed, separation is so threatening that fear of it alone suffices to decide in favor of unified participation.
In the first elections we expressed this position explicitly; however, this unified appearance failed due to the rigid stance of those who placed questionable matters above public interests. We were then compelled to act against our wishes; even today there remains full possibility for unified participation if those responsible for the first failure do not sabotage it again.
May Hashem spread His shelter of peace over us and over all Israel and over Jerusalem.
Summary
The Rebbe stresses that unity among religious parties is vital for communal strength and success. Personal or party interests must yield to collective benefit—especially when Jewish values are at stake—so as not to endanger shared goals or cause division within Am Yisrael.
