My revered father said—in relation to contemplating and deeply focusing on a concept that is difficult to grasp: If the matter is personally relevant, then one understands and comprehends it very well. There is proof for this from the Torah in the laws concerning women and their claims, which they are able to make. The Tannaim, Amoraim, and Geonim—who were all people of extraordinary intellect—discuss these matters, and the Torah is a Torah of truth. Yet, a woman is not generally considered capable of making such claims. However, the truth is that when the matter is personally relevant, even those with weak intellect can come up with profound ideas.
Summary
When an idea touches us personally, our ability to understand it deepens—even if it is usually beyond our grasp. Personal relevance awakens hidden intellectual strengths.
