אתו רב הסליחה שלא אישרתי קבלת מכתבו בעתו. ובודאי לא יחשדני במה שאין בי, כי אם אך ורק בסיבת רב הטרדות, ובעיקר אשר לעתים קרובות אינן טרדות של שמחה אלא אדרבה. והנה נתוספה טרדה עיקרית והכי רצינית בחדשים האחרונים, וכדלהלן.
ופותחין בברכה, שתקותי שהי' לו חג הפסח כשר ושמח, ויהי רצון שהשפעת החג תהי' ניכרת בכל ימות השנה כולה, ובנקודתו הפנימית שיהי' זמן חרותנו, חרות מכל ענינים המבלבלים.

Surely you do not suspect me of anything negative; it is only due to many preoccupations, and mainly because these are often not joyful matters but rather the opposite. Recently, an especially serious and primary concern has been added, as follows.
Let us begin with a blessing: I hope you had a kosher and joyous Pesach, and may it be G‑d's will that the influence of the festival be felt throughout the entire year. In its inner point, may it truly be "the time of our freedom," freedom from all confusing matters.
The serious concern I referred to is connected with developments surrounding the "Who is a Jew" issue—the wording of the law, etc. Surely for someone like yourself there is no need to elaborate on how grave this matter and situation are; it obligates every single person…
With blessings for a healthy and happy summer both materially and spiritually together, with honor and blessing.
